Too many players do get paid in all divisions, even div 6 or 7 or they work (or are at least on the books of the company) for their coach (or another official of the club).MW wrote:Wait what? People get paid to play div 6?Roger wrote:What started out as a promising division has clearly become a 2-horse race between Salisbury and Eastern Park. The demons have more top-end talent after splashing some cash and going on a strong recruiting drive this year and all the talk early days was they were extremely confident in taking it out in 2024. However I think the magpies are better balanced and far better coached. Availability and venue will be big factors in who takes it out this year.
The Farmers and the Roys are really good D6 sides who in any other year would probably be the teams to beat, but just lack the depth of the top 2. Neither side can afford to lose their best players and the Farmers have been without Payne for more than a month which is a big concern for them. The Roys on the other hand have had their best players play most weeks (Rosenthall, Richardson, Russell, Ellis), but it's their bottom 3-5 which hurt them.

EP must have too much money to afford the fine for not having their team in by lunch.

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6
Players have been getting paid in every A grade division for decades. There are D6 clubs that’d easily account for country sides that spend decent cash. Clubs are entitled to spend as per the cap and if they do it’s no one else’s business. Its a pathetic argument. The Bedge wrote:Who cares.

Had a young lad umpire our B grade Saturday, not sure how old he was but looked all of 12
Exceptional umpire, thought he was brilliant - and at times when things looked like they might get out of control with some push and shove he dealt with it swiftly and appropriately. Umpired with great authority and conviction.
Bright future for the kid if he sticks at it.

I watched Curtis Deboy umpire an A Grade game between Hectorville and Smithfield many moons ago when he was about the same age, was a pleasure to watch. The Bedge wrote:Had a young lad umpire our B grade Saturday, not sure how old he was but looked all of 12![]()

Rosenthal not quite 32 but he's certainly filled his boots in the 2 games against elizabeth#bleedredandblue wrote:Fitzroy vs Elizabeth - Fitzroy 190 points with rosenthal kicking 32
St Paul’s vs Central United - Units 22 points
Rosewater vs Salisbury - Salisbury 70 points
Ingle Farm vs Eastern Park - IF 37 points
Adelaide Lutheran vs Houghton - Houghton 22 points
St pauls were always going to win by more than 22 points, units struggling for depth now and forfeited the B grade
Ingle farm did well to get within a couple goals with the outs they had, didnt see the game but EP seemed full strength but could be wrong
Rosewater much improved and salisbury had covid through the club (C grade forfeit) so result about right
Houghton as expected
ROUND 14
Fitzroy 100+ vs Units
Adel Lutheran 30 points vs Elizabeth
Salisbury 40 points vs St Pauls
Ingle Farm 25 points vs Houghton
Eastern Park 99 points vs Rosewater

Only two home games left for them to claim their Houghton home ground advantage tax with the umpires though.Arch44 wrote:Here come Houghton to keep things interesting

Ingle Farm appear to be getting their depth tested at the moment, always hard to play at Houghton in the middle of WinterArch44 wrote:That old chestnutThe Bedge wrote:Only two home games left for them to claim their Houghton home ground advantage tax with the umpires though.Arch44 wrote:Here come Houghton to keep things interesting
Most other results were as expected but thought Fitzroy probably would've won by more but Units seem to be putting up a fight most weeks

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6
I actually travelled out to Mofflin (Unit Park) on Saturday to see Fitzroy and the Units. Fitzroy aren't in the top rung of teams from what I saw. Maybe an off day for them but they were only 3 to 4 goals up at half time as they blew so many chances early by not kicking straight. Both teams lacked depth especially in the last third of their players with their skills and only a handful of players on the oval would have been over 6' 2" or even 6', the Units more so than Fitzroy but that is why they are in div 6. PW, you were surprised by the margin. It could have been a lot less as Fitzroy kicked 4 or 5 goals in junk time in the last quarter.Purple Warrior wrote:Ingle Farm appear to be getting their depth tested at the moment, always hard to play at Houghton in the middle of WinterArch44 wrote:That old chestnutThe Bedge wrote:Only two home games left for them to claim their Houghton home ground advantage tax with the umpires though.Arch44 wrote:Here come Houghton to keep things interesting

Units host Elizabeth in the match of the round this week, but there has to be a more skilful game somewhere else.

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6
If I was being honest, I see Salisbury as the stand out team - Eastern Park couple goals behind them, and then I'd have Ingle Farm's best a marginally behind them. Fitzroy are similar to Ingle Farm, but have lost to them twice so have them just behind the Farmers. The Old Fellow wrote:Fitzroy aren't in the top rung of teams from what I saw.
From there, the rest are capable of upsets on their day and quite even, but the best of the top 4 is streets ahead.
Come finals will really be about what side can get their best 21 on the park and perform for 4 quarters.

had one in Div 1 B grade on Saturday, presume was probably him, did an excellent job, my lad played in that game and said that the lad took no rubbish from anyone and was right on the job, the older and more experienced umpire wasnt too bad eitherFooty Chick wrote:Yep, we had him a couple of weeks back and he was good. The Bedge wrote:Had a young lad umpire our B grade Saturday, not sure how old he was but looked all of 12![]()
