It's the best mark taken in the W to date.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Watched her last week, and thought she is a chance to become the best player in the comp.

She might be climbing that ladder faster than I expected.

Watching her in Round 1 against the Crows, she was rocks or diamonds. Unreal in the air or in a ruck contest, but totally lost when the ball was in motion around her. She seems like she's improved week by week since then, and I love that she's an athletic ruck that jumps instead of the ridiculous wrestling crap that's taken over both forms of the game lately.

Much like the rest of the squad she's developing week to week. At 19 with 18 games under her belt she has every opportunity to be an elite of the competition.

Posted before Rd 1 last season.
Trader wrote:Port's inclusions this season of Saint up forward (previously Woodland) and Tilly Scholz to ruck are a couple of great ins.
We struggled in ruck last year and Scholz looks good. Only 18 so might take a bit of time to find her feet but early signs are positive.

Quite a few old Port boys in the bowling club last night, Ginever, Mahney, Borlase, Smith, Thurstans, Hutton, Cassisi. Good to have a yarn with them.

I dont pretend to be an expert at all and dont watch a lot
However i have seen a few games recently and it doesnt appear to have improved from day 1
Crowds and media attention dont seem to be as high as previously
LIke i said, no expert or even a big watcher. i know AFLW will be here to stay but is the product any better to watch or being followed more since year 1

Some elements have improved, but equally, the defensive side of the game has also improved. It's easier to drill into the players intensity, work rate and tackling. What takes time to develop is remaining calm under pressure, good decision making, etc.
As such, the scoring hasn't improved yet, and that is making the product hard to watch at times.

The other thing to keep in mind is the game is shorter than the mens, and therefore the lower scoring is expected, but yeah, probably not quite to the levels we are currently seeing.

I think you're right, you're not an expert on it.

I'm not either but if you watch a few games you will see a dramatic improvement since it's inception. Obviously the Essendon vs Bulldogs game copped a bollocking but generally the standard is a lot higher.

I think the key is also that the standard is only going to improve. We will see the first generation of girls who played footy from under 8's or whatever coming into the AFLW.

We will only see community numbers in the female game grow which will see more talent coming through.

As Trader mentioned as well, the first step for AFLW is to build the defensive foundations, as the years go on the attacking side of games will improve as well.

Will it be enough to see crowd numbers and television audiences grow....who knows. I'm glad my 3 daughters have the oppurtunity to play aussie rules if they choose to.

I watch a fair bit and the standard/skills have improved. Kicking is getting longer and more accurate.
