Great call on the batting order, mal, Malcolm Marshall was very handy with the bat, Curtley, not so much. And every Windies side must have Viv at three!mal wrote:.......GIBBS if spinners deck...HALL if notLightning McQueen wrote:WINDIES

Only 1 different player Top 10 same as Lefty_Mcqueen
Same except number 11 and the batting order
Lightning Hall was a magnificent fast bowler- but could have picked Roberts, Holding, Walsh , Bishop, Croft as well
Lance Gibbs was an offspinner and a wicket taking machine
Lance also played SS cricket for South Australia , but was not outstanding , hard gig bowling off spin in Australia

Obviously only going by early 80's onwards.
Surely Barry (Nugget) Rees gets in?

He also has a powerful tenor voice and sang a few songs at the function
Was also a decent bowler in his cricketing days

Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
We had an annual office vs factory cricket match back in the late 90's and there was a dude that used to give Georgie a hard time at work. Shane had a bit of fun bowling to him on hard wicket, I nearly had him come out and play hard wicket with us, he was a good bloke and a fair way out there.tigerpie wrote: Would love to have seen more of Shane George geez he was quick.

He played the 1987 season in Darwin at our club.Lightning McQueen wrote:We had an annual office vs factory cricket match back in the late 90's and there was a dude that used to give Georgie a hard time at work. He used to bowl off 4 steps to us at U/16s training
I wore brown undies to each session
Three months later he's making his Shield debut...
Looking back it was good to be exposed to what that level looks like, even though it confirmed those childhood dreams were well and truly never going to happen!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
Flying High has Glen Bishop opening the batting in his best SA team
There were at least 3 things that concerned Glen Bishop
Playing cricket
Punting at the dogs
Making sure he did'nt have a hair out of place !
Glen was a good attacking batsman and a very good bloke

Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
I was playing a B or C Grade district game with him his brother when I was a young lad and we sometimes had to go square leg ump when we were batting, Mark was our skipper and he went out there with his little transistor radio and an earpiece, he was barracking his horse home in the straight while there was a run out appeal at his end, he had no idea what had happened.mal wrote:Flying High has Glen Bishop opening the batting in his best SA team

He is an absolute cracking bloke, as is the youngest brother

On hardwicket he would've been terrifying at anywhere near top pace.Lightning McQueen wrote:We had an annual office vs factory cricket match back in the late 90's and there was a dude that used to give Georgie a hard time at work. Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
Most probably the 2 greatest cricketers to have played both represented SA
Tests
The Don
6996 runs
99.94 average
2 wickets
36-0 average
? fieldsman
Sir Gary Sobers
8032 runs
57-78 average
235 wickets
34-03 average
amazing fieldsman
Its accepted that The Don is the greatest ever cricketer
Is there anyone who has the opinion that Sir Gary is the greatest ?
