Will many teams be impacted by the long weekend this round?

Re: PDCA
Ok I'm bored.. and the BBL thread got me thinking. What radical changes could PDCA make?
Standalone T20 division
Lowest division 9-a-side, 32 overs each. Start 12:30pm, finish 5:00pm. Retire @ 50. Max 6 overs per bowler.
All LO games start at 12:30pm instead of 1:00pm.
Ability to pick a squad for a two day game and choose who plays week 1 / week 2 depending after the toss when you know if you're batting or bowling.
Knockout style champions trophy or bring back the T20 comp with all the clubs from the competition.
Juniors: dropping "Master Blasters" has ruined U10's in my opinion - even our club is the same, too many young kids who aren't ready to play U10s but electing to because they've done "Blast" for 3 years and are bored.. suddenly they're playing games against developed, mature 10 year old kids and well out their depth. Also the gap / difference in standard from 10s to 12s is quite large - just look at some of Enfield's U12 results this year especially against North Pines. So...
Super 6's: 6-7yr old (more ability based than age). 18 overs, everyone bowls 3 overs and everyone bats 18 balls. No "wicket keeper", just have a fielder. Rotate each over. Play mid-week.
Stage 1 (Current U10 format): 8-9yr old (ability based than age). Exact same as U10s now with batting / bowling etc and 4 runs for bowling side if you get a wicket.
U10's (need a new fancy name): Close to the current Under 12s format where if you're out you are out.
U12's: Could keep the current format, but I'd be in favor of removing the mandatory retirement after balls faced and lower the retired after runs scored target (from 50 to say 30?).
U16"s: Move it to a Sunday to allow the capable 14's to double up if they wish.

Re: PDCA
Personally i think the first change for senior cricket would be to make the One Day comp and 2 Day comp as separate competitions with their own ladders and finals series.
Yes often the teams doing well in the 2 dayers will also do well in the 1 dayers.
Have seperate relegation / promotion in those comps, means over time teams may play more teams in the one year, visit different grounds etc which will add interest.
Teams that are always going to struggle in two-day cricket will at least be rejuvenated once the one dayers commence. Player interest should be greater.
I'm sure Salisbury West would also love to win two flags in the one year!!!! Maybe hold the one day comp grand final the week before the two day comp grand final so the SW players are still on the piss and the opposition might have an enth of a chance. haha.

Re: PDCA
If SalWest finish top of Grade 2 will the comp allow them to field their A and B Grade both in Grade 1? Has this been done before in the men’s game? I understand the girls at Eyre Royals have set the precedent a few years ago.whufc wrote:Personally i think the first change for senior cricket would be to make the One Day comp and 2 Day comp as separate competitions with their own ladders and finals series.

Agree there is capacity for ‘two’ comps in one season, however don’t see two day cricket (as mentioned previously) as a viable option moving forward in the short term. If there is a move to One Day Cricket in totality, there should also be a realignment of teams where A Grades ply A Grade teams, B Grades play B Grade teams and so forth. Within 3 years things will correct themselves.

If you look at the the last two times it has happened in women's Grade 1 the following year the premiers didn't field a team in Grade 1.
It destroys clubs, not that I think it would in Salisbury West's case but it is a precedent that won't be explored again.
It's going to be difficult to keep the two day comp alive moving forward, Grade 1 will always exist but I struggle to see Grade 2 continuing. If Westies took out the flag and Smithfield don't field a side next season you'd assume that Grade 1 will go to a 6 team comp (play each other in a two-dayer, a one dayer and a T20 I'd imagine).

Hmm is that really a result of having two sides in the same division?Lightning McQueen wrote:If you look at the the last two times it has happened in women's Grade 1 the following year the premiers didn't field a team in Grade 1.
Women's cricket seems to have a fair bit of moving, bitchiness, politics etc.
Eyre Royals deserved to have two sides in the same division for a LONG time before it actually occurred.. they took the piss in two grades. I don't think them not fielding a D1 side the year after was a direct result of them being in the same division - unless it's because the B grade won the GF and the A grade couldn't hack it.
I don't think having two sides in the same division is a great move regardless of the comp, but sometimes I think there is a place for it, especially if managed correctly.

Always seems to provide more drama etc than anything else, is 1 an A Grade and the other a B Grade and can players be dropped etc.
Or is it essentially an A1 and an A2 and they have to drop players to the clubs third side and can select players up from the third side.
Never been a big fan of two sides in the same division.

I'd say each side would be designated as A and B whether that's how it's listed or not.. or perhaps for the sake of Men's if it happened you would identify which was which.
Eyre Royals women was different, they had stable squads for each team for a few years - and their C grade were all newbies from memory, so was no real question as to who was who.
There are bigger issues with community cricket than having two sides in the same division.

Re: PDCA
Both clubs suffered due to the internal politics of having two sides (both successful) in the same grade. Eyre Royals were head and shoulders above everyone, even with splitting the sides they both made the GF.The Bedge wrote:Hmm is that really a result of having two sides in the same division?Lightning McQueen wrote:If you look at the the last two times it has happened in women's Grade 1 the following year the premiers didn't field a team in Grade 1.
