Did Matt Stevic Stevic umpire the grand final? Absolute disgrace. Apparently money buys umpires too. Asterisk flag for port noarlunga

By letter of the rulebook the last freekick is there, you cant hit a ball from a ball up over the line on the full as its paid deliberate. But what a shitty way to end the tight contested GF

But I feel a lot more freekicks were missed especially in the valleys F50 and D50 towards them.

Pararedes was a one man army for sure

Rule 18.12.2 d
A ruck tap over the goal line on the full is to be a free kick
No interpretation required. Black and white.

I'll draw your attention to the CSLFUP interpretation of laws for SFL & GSFL

DELIBERATE RUSHED BEHIND
A deliberate rushed behind will only be paid if the defending Ruckman hits the ball over the goal line on the full. A behind is NOT recorded and a free kick taken from where the ball crossed the line (On an angle between the points and straight in front in the goal square).
NO other rushed behind will be penalised in our leagues.

Another case of players (and the abysmal commentary team) not knowing the rules. Its been in there since 2017....

So does Jarman keep his job or is there truth in an unhappy playing group that want him gone? I wouldn’t have thought the club will make a change now? Premierships paper over cracks. Other clubs have a lot of Points room though so Porties may fade into irrelevance for another 28 years?

Surely Johns leaves. Does all the hard work, multiple SFL & Southern Zone rep, then gets dumped for the prelim and the GF. So much for being a loyal Cocklediver...

So, on to 2026, see Reynella have started signing early, Schirmer to return, a much needed ruck, and Kirkland back from South Adelaide

What if it isn't the designated ruckman that hits it over? With the wind on the day the ball up drifted to another pair and the HV player hit it over?

Watching it live I thought it was a 3rd man up infringement.

As for the commentary team, holy hell, not knowing there was time on in the A grade was the funniest part and it only got worse from there :roll:

Go to 2.31 onwards, the 2 HV defenders wouldn't want to watch themselves not getting the ball across the line before the stoppage

Surprisingly, despite my best feedback to the umpires all bloody season, not once has there been a free for 3rd man up. I'm assuming in 2045 when the SFL umpires get their versions of the 2025 rulebook that this will be rectified

As for the commentary, normally we have SFL president Warman and one of his committee cronies calling the game. The irony of them bagging the umpires all game WHO REPRESENT THEIR BLOODY LEAGUE is not lost on me...

There is no 3rd man up rule in the SFL or GSFL. So, there is no free kick for that either.

Doesn't matter who knocked it over on the full, if its off a HV player, its a free kick.

Blows me away how many people (including players) don't know the rules of the league

The commentary cronies don't know the rules either, makes its pretty embarrassing when they are bagging the umpires on interpretations which they have no idea about, and are oficiated correctly... Horrible to have your league President slagging off your umpires. That commentary team needs to change. the young bloke is atrocious

SFL uses the rules of SA Community Football, link here - https://sflinc.com.au/sfl-league-rules/

From the rulebook:
SANFL Community Football plays under the Laws of Australian Football as determined by the Australian
Football League. These Laws are updated annually and published by the AFL. SANFL Community Football
Regulations may deviate from these Laws to provide for Laws which better suit Community Football.
There's no mention of the SFL having it's own ruck rules on their website.

So from there, we have to go to the Laws of Australian football - https://resources.afl.com.au/afl/docume ... tal_FA.pdf

Law 18.4.3 states:
18.4.3 Free Kicks - Ruck Contests
A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick in a Ruck contest against a Player where the Player:
(a) who is not a Ruck, contests a throw-up or boundary throw-in;
(b) unduly pushes or bumps an opposition Ruck;
(c) blocks an opposition Ruck;
(d) makes contact with an opposition Ruck prior to the football leaving the field or
boundary Umpire’s hand;
(e) who is a Ruck, enters their attacking half or steps outside the Centre Circle prior
to the field Umpire bouncing or throwing up the football; or
(f) hits the football Out of Bounds On the Full from a throw-up by a field Umpire or a
throw-in by a boundary Umpire.

No 6, 6, 6 rule.
No stand rule.
No rule against third man up.

Not sure where it is written but the SFL do not play these rules.
