My day at the WAFL

Beros has stayed at Swan Districts and resisted moving clubs (WAFL is pretty much run on EPL style league, with the youth development crucial to future success) Beros was hard running midfielder, much like Peter Bell and it is his loyalty and consistency that is celebrated, to reach 150 WAFL games all for one club is a huge achievement in this day and age...and despite Swans not having money, the culture of loyalty is amazing.

He is about 30 years of age, has been a great captain for Swan Districts and a marvellous player, he has won the Sandover Medal.

No Subiaco didn't choke that year, but if they had done it would have been one of the biggest injustices in the history of the WAFL competition.

Haven't seen Perth play yet...but I don't think hes set the world on fire with them.

Looking at leading goalkickers, Miller has yet to kick a goal yet according to the WAFL stats.

Who did south freo beat in the gf. Surely thay didnt play woodville west torrens aswell?

Nah not this time, I was thinking about going, but the flights to Adelaide for that weekend were pretty expensive...thus I decided not to go over.

DO they still have there WAFL games finishing at around 5pm and the AFL starting at subi at 5:45pm.

I couldnt believe that they actually went against the AFL i mean the SANFL try to avoid the AFL to maximise attendances.

Noticed Shannon Hurn got second best and kicked 4 goals for Peel Thunder on the weekend.
Is he considered getting close to selection for West Coast?
From the 3 years I spent in Perth (lived about 1 km from West Perth's Arena Joondalup ground) I really got the impression that there is not a hell of a lot of interest in the WAFL compared to the SANFL and that if they got 2000 to a game that that was considered a very good crowd and from the games I went to I thought there would have been lucky to have been over a 1000.
Is Mark Piani still playing in the WAFL? Remember playing in a trial against Wanneroo Sunday League that Piani played for on this day (While East Fremantle and Swan Districts were wrangling over his clearance/contract) in 2004 and I remember asking someone after the game ' who was that jumping jack that played on the ball' - 'that was Mark Piani', Oh I thought, knowing full well the name Mark Piani.
Had West Perth coach Darren Harris at a few of our trainings and he was very accommodating.
Went to the post 2003 premiership celebrations of West Perth's and got pretty sloshed but that side contained a young Kepler Bradley (Essendon) and Brent LeCras (Kangaroos) ,former Western Bulldog Todd Curley and '96 Crows listed player Brendan Logan.

I spoke to a swans supporter and he reckoned the swans have the most supporters. I found that hard to believe considering they only have 7 premierships. Whats your view?

He also siad the league don't progamme good time slots for them because he believed they wanted them to amalgamate with (Perth?).

In my opinion the absolute max crowd would have been 2000.

In terms of loyalty Swans are right on top and got the highest home crowd average of last season...in terms of numbers of supporters, the Freo clubs East and Sth Freo I would say have the most supporters with some saying the Fremantle Dockers are still internally divided and supporters always questioning the clubs choices through the divide in the city between the two teams...especially during the early days.

The Fremantle Dockers squad is primarily of locals from the Fremantle region and Fremantle clubs - this will never change...and the Fremantle region has provided most of WA's greatest ever footballers...the best area in terms of the metro area (hopefully nobody from Fremantle reads this, people who live in Fremantle hate to be associated with the city of Perth...and in fairness they are completely different cities, just urban sprawl has joined the cities together ) Thus in a long way I hope I have answered your question, the sheer passion for football in Fremantle - attributes East Freo and Sth Freo with the largest support in the WAFL in my view...despite them not turning up in numbers during the season - In East Freo's case because of the woeful form they are in at the moment.

22,000 at our Grand Final last year - 20,000 were Sth Fremantle Supporters.

Funnily enough most of my in laws (and wife) are South Freo supporters and whilst they mostly follow both The Eagles and The Dockers my (step)brother in law and my wife are mad South Freo supporters who can't stand the Dockers. Their arguement is simple The Eagles first premiership team included these ex-Doggies - Sumich. Worsfold, Jakovich, Matera - and my step brother in law still refers to Freo as the Claremont Dockers. He is a born and bred Fremantle resident as well.

Of course, but they may also say that its due to the fact that the believe there are too many 'east fremantle' influences within the club...which many Sth Fremantle supporters including long time broadcaster George Grljusich has stated.

Putting a Claremont coach with Claremont players did not get any support from the club - look at the previous membership was only 16,000 when the Dockers started compared to Port Adelaide with 37,000 and it proved somewhat hard to attract the Freo supporters (especially with the Eagles winning the year before).

Having Eagles legends from the Fremantle area such as Jakovich and Sumich - Right in the heart of working class Sth Fremantle really would persuade many to support the Eagles...

Like I said its a pity that the traditional derby thats had a huge rivalry for over 100 years has gone a tad downhill of late...I remember a few years ago they got 7,000 for a Foundation Day Derby...but weather etc and form has really dented this once huge celebration.

I watched the first half of this game on Monday (hooray for ABC2 and set-top boxes). Frankly I was amazed by the non-atmosphere. Hardly a soul sitting on the outer side, and nothing more than polite applause when a goal was kicked. No real barracking to speak of. Is the WAFL always like this?

The standard of the play seemed reasonable, but Peel Thunder should have been called the Peel Hippos, such was their goalfront skills. Too many players prepared to jam it on their boot and blaze away instead of looking for the team option. What was the score in the end - I assume Peel got fully pumped?

Yep and we are reinforcing the suspension on the bandwagon too for all the extra supporters that will get on us after this weekend

Seriously this game should be close, I just want us to remain disciplined and stick to our game plan and play four quarters of footy. The result should take care of itself if we do the basics right.....
