Most exhilarating SANFL Moment

As a Port supporter, cant go past Hodges kick in the 96 Prelim.

Phil Mcguiness' reverse torp goal from 50 to win us the 99 premiership with about 45 seconds left is also up there.

Tom Carrs bump on Nathan Irvin in the 98 GF.

Mcleod soccering through a goal to put us in front in the 94 GF.

Wanganeens goal in the last quarter of the 04 Prelim, and his 2nd goal in the last quarter of the GF.

For me it was winning the 88 grand final against Glenelg, which was the start of something great, with winning the following 2 years, resulting in the club winning the last 3 flags before the SANFL landscape changed forever with the introduction of the Crows in 91.

I spent a lot of time thinking about this.

1. Keith Thomas mark running the wrong way in the 84 GF. Didn't think we could lose after a player did that.

Others that stick in the mind;
- Richard Anderson goal at Footy Park v Port where he got the ball around half back, charged through the middle with a couple of bounces and then nailed it from a long way out, not long after Rohan Smith kicked a stunning goal for the Magpies.
- Graham Cornes standing on pack at Norwood Oval and kicking the winning goal after the siren.
- Ugo Colosante giving Rick Davies a complete pantsing one day at the Parade in late 1980 when we had no Button for the year. He then hurt himself at work a week or two later and missed the finals, leaving Nick Walker as the front man.

1986 Grand Final. Second quarter. Tony Hall marks a ball, having thrown himself in front of a leading Rooster. Fires up a handball to the lurking Peter Maynard before the crowd has time to applaud. Maxy spies Tony Symonds streaming goalwards and lobs the ball perfectly in front of him. Symo hardly broke stride, just took the ball out of the air as he streamed goalwards and slotted it through. A better passage of play I have never seen.

You missed the lead up to Hallys mark Psuedo (which was exemplorary footy by Moose, Donno and Bone) and Daysie's commentary...

Wayne Henwood punches from behind following a Peter Bennett free kick into Norths half forward line, Mark Donovan picks up the crumbs and gives to McDermott. Bones pumps it forward, where Hall attacks the footy and takes a grab over Mick Parsons.....cue Psuedo

As Daisy Day says: "This is unbelieveable football by Glenelg. They're pinpointing the passes brilliantly, that one from Maynard actually hit Symonds while he was flat as a strap, he didn't have to break stride and he booted a most magnificent goal. And Glenelgs first quarter and six minutes has been the best football I've seen all season"

As a neutral supporter, i must say those 3 grand finals between North and Glenelg between 85 and 87 certainly had everything - skills, a bit of biffo, high scoring, and ultimately it was good to see North win 87 after not producing the good against the Bays the previous 2 years.

I think it was the 83 prelim final against norwood, davies kicked his 151 and we trounced the hated foe. Other than that 2002 GF, Mattner running from half back, hand pass, running running running, recieves hand pass, running running bounce running running, 45m out on the NW boundry aaannnddd.....GOAL!!! the Sturt supporters go wild and the Doggies' scratch their fleas in awe.

that Marty Mattner goal does it for me, I was sitting in the members right behind Marty when he kicked it and he was never going to miss and we were never going to lose after that

This goal gets better and better! He did it from the seat in front of you in the grandstand!

Symo's goal in 86 was superb. The moment that has given me the most goosebumps however, is when Super ran out on to the Bay oval in his record breaking game. I couldn't help but tear up. Will always remain my favourite.

It was half-hearted and easily ducked, but made Neil at least think twice in future.

He was a very good player. I often wondered what happened to him after that stellar debut season.

Can't remember the year, but it was this century, North v Port @ Adelaide oval, opening bounce, the ball comes out of the centre towards the members side, Damon White gets the ball on the wing and unloads with an almighty torp, straight through the middle, the biggest goal I've seen live and Port hadn't even touched the ball yet.

1/ Watching the last half of the 1976 Grand Final which was telecast live into Melbourne.
2/ Watching the 1980 GF which was the first SANFL GF to be telecast in its entirety into Melbourne.
3/ Attending my first SANFL game - Round 1 2002 Norwood v Sturt under lights @ Norwood

My biggest dissapointment was NOT watching the '91 GF while in Melbourne, it was the first year since 1980 that the SANFL GF hadn't been shown in it's entirity since 1980

Ray Huppatz's mark in the goalsquare against Norwood at Footy Park, 1983. Kicked a goal to win the match, too!

George Fiacchi's desperate lunge to rush a behind, stop a certain goal and save the match against Norwood at The Parade, 1988.

The sound-barrier breaking 'Magpies' chant that swept Footy Park after Port kicked the first goal in the last quarter of the 1994 Grand Final. Actually, the whole last quarter was exhilirating.
