Re: National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion
It was in the initial pre-draft draft SANFL schedule outline.
ie what went out to clubs in requsting their 2 wishes for 2011.
All that was listed was starting date, state game and GF.
That said maybe this will cancel the 2011 game. .... there goes the road trip !!
Sunday Mail says will just be 8 teams in 2011 IF it goes ahead.
(ie only Norwood & Central in SA)
SANFL only got word of it four weeks ago so seems a little rushed given
scheduled are being started as we speak.

Re: National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion
Initially I was liking the idea, until I saw this condition:
If that's going to be the case then either the VFL is excluded or the competition is pointless as it'll be a 2 horse race between North Ballarat (which will be stacked with North Melbourne players) and Northern Bullants (stacked with Carlton players) and the rest of the comp would just be making up the numbers.
AFL-listed players not playing in the national competition that weekend would be available

They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Re: National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion
I don't agree with the AFL stacked VFL aides having a natural advantage
Remember these are not the top 22 on the AFL list, they are the one at the lower end of the playing list, many just drafted and being "developed" or coming off injury or just plain out of form.
We have SA based AFL players that can't get a game at SANFL league level.
In the VFL these same reserves standard players all play at league level.
Plus there is the team stability / balance argument.
Just remember the changes the Eagles had this year due to AFL fringe players, that would be a light example at VFL level.
How many of the AFL based players training regularly with their VFL teammates
Plus mentally how much does this comeptition mean to SANFL contacted players (probably highest they will play)
against AFL listede players trying hard to get back to the elite level.

Hehe, well, it will mean that it will be at least another year before I step on a plane for the first time.

Our Premiership side of 2010 had 5 North Melboure listed and 2 Rookies, leaving 15 North Ballarat listed players, mostly home grown.
If you call that STACKED with North Melbourne players then you have your head in the clouds Brucetiki.
You would be closer with your statement about the Bullants as thay had 12 Carlton listed and 10 listed Bullants in the Grand Final, but a jack lot of shit that done them.
I wouldnt be to worried about the AFL listed guys ,most are finished or wont play AFL anyway (very overated) mostly.
If this comp goes ahead AFL listed blokes wont be able to play. Rookies most likely will play.
Just for the record how many AFL listed guys played for Centrals and Norwood in this years GF ?

Why wouldnt the Crows or Power give Callinan a go ?
I cant believe he wouldnt get a game with both of them.
He was all class in the VFL and looks like nothing has changed.
One other question what happened to Justin Hardy fron Centrals (ex nth ballarat)? i noticed he never played in the flag .

Re: National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion
Callinan has had a few soft tissue injuries and now 27 I think its passed him, there is a thought that he is too small for AFL.
IMO he would be a worth a crack on a rookie list, cause he could come in if hit by injuries and have an immediate impact.
Hardy couldnt make the Dogs best 21

Thanks Dutchy, Hardy walked out on us (Nth Ballarat) coz he couldnt get a game to.
Will he stay or walk out on Centrals ? Big sook in my opinion.
Ex Nth Ballarat and ex Glenelg forward Justin McConnell won the Western Border B&F Medal.
He said he loved his time with the Tigers and loved Snouts louts.
He may return to Glenelg in 2012 in a coaching or mentoring role .

And both played for Central.
Norwood had no AFL-listed players during the finals.
Will Young - played around 10 minor round games
Walker - played 3 minor round games
Rodan - played 2 minor round games
Matt Thomas - played zero minor round games
So over 20 minor round games and 4 finals, (21 players per game x 24 matches = 504 games)only about 15 Norwood minor round games and zero finals were played for Norwood by an AFL listed player.

Here's a blast from the past:
Four minutes from the 1986 "Battle of Premiers" Subiaco vs Hawthorn match (I'd never heard of it until now)

Hardy was pretty unlucky to miss the GF. He was thrown into the ruck mid season when Milne and Griffin were unavailable (and pre Pumpa). Although he said he wasn't a ruckman, he said he was happy to play anywhere for the side. He also played well in the last few ressies games.
I'd be surprised and disappointed if he "walked out", as he seems very happy at CDFC. Also, I envisage he'd get plenty of game time next year especially if we lose either buckets or Yves.

Like the other apprentices before Him, Hardy WILL win a Grand Final with Centrals next year, playing in the league side.

He probably could, with the change in dates next year. Central haven't played a Prelim for a very long time!

At Centrals, 25 players doesn't go into 21...Hardy can play...same with Habel, Reichert, Schiller, Barmby, Milne, Musolino..............................

Re: National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion
Just a thought - but given that these games are to be held at AFL grounds leads me to think they may be played as curtain raisers to AFL games. That would tie in with Foxtel needing to fill in a scheduling gap in between AFL games. Lets say Foxtel had the lunchtime AFL game from Victoria and the Night game in Adelaide or Perth -in that case the state league game could be played before the Adelaide or Perth game, where Foxtel were already set up with cameras etc..
Generally I am not in favour of SANFL games being played as curtain raisers but I'm thinking I would make an exception for these type of games IF this happened to be the format they are thinking of..

Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.
