Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League- Division 1
An Adelaide Footy League club has been stripped of two premiership points after fielding an ineligible player on Saturday and now sits bottom of the ladder as a result.
Division one club St Peter’s Old Collegians self-reported that it had fielded an ineligible player during its 88-37 home win over fellow relegation battler Old Ignatians and has had its score wiped by the league.
The club breached a longstanding rule in the competition which stipulates that an amateur club cannot field a SANFL player who played SANFL football the week before unless that player has competed in 25 senior and/or junior men’s matches or 20 women’s matches for that amateur club or has attended the school the club is affiliated with.
The outcome means SPOC has been stripped of its first win of the 2023 div one season and slides below opponent Old Ignatians – also previously winless – to the bottom of the ladder.
Adelaide Footy League chief John Kernahan said the league had no choice but to strip SPOC of its win and award it to Old ignatians.
“The fact the match was against Old Ignatians, a club SPOC is competing with to avoid a lower placed position on the premiership ladder is immaterial,” he said.
“Precedence has determined the league had little choice than to remove the score and adjust the match result accordingly just as it would for any other player ineligible to play or breach of APPS regulations or Player Points.
“Most clubs would have some empathy for a club who wilts under the weight of regulations. However, we will always place the integrity of our competition above all else where applicable.
“It would be easy to throw rocks at the SPOC management from the cheap seats but there was no deliberate breach. However, it is inherent of a club with healthy playing stock not adequately supported off field.
“We very much hope the SPOC community understand that like other clubs, theirs is being facilitated by too few and needing to do too much. When that happens, some fundamentals fall through the cracks.”
St Peter’s OC chairman Guy Roberts said the club was not up to speed on the rule and had let its playing group down as a result.
“Our vetting processes didn’t work perfectly. We published our team on the Thursday night and regrettably we didn’t know the rule and no one picked up on it until the opposition club put us on notice in the third quarter.
“We took the player off and then self-reported to the league.
“The players are the ones we feel for, it was their first win and a comfortable one. It’s a harsh lesson learned for us and a collective failure on the admin side of things.
“We let our playing group down and we have apologised to them. They are now focused on getting a win against Goodwood on Saturday.”

How can the club not be up to speed with the rule when it has been known for a long time, and the league reminded everybody about it in the weekly update

Makes sense, especially if appointed late in the off season

Not sure what they are drinking in the coach's box at Glenunga. Abe Davis would not have needed a shower after yesterday's game McRae gave him a bath and some, yet he gets best on for Glenunga. Maybe the coaches were watching a different game or a way of paying his wage??

They may have been drinking winners piss champ.
Abe 21 touches and 8 tackles
Beau 14 touches and 6 tackles
Now I'm not disrespecting McCrea who had a great day but if you want to hang it on people and sound like a sooky little English cricket fan you might want to check the stats before besmirching a club, their player and Coaches.

Spelling McRae's surname wrong is probably a little disrespectful. We played against Abe in R1 and meet again this week. He didn't get off the chain in R1, not that he needed to because we got smashed, but he was impressive with the work he did around the contest. Uses his size and strength to good effect. Good for the comp having blokes like Abe straight out of SANFL running around even when they're not on your team.

Game on in Div 1 with 2 rounds to play
Old Iggies heading to Div 2 but after todays results the other spot looks like being fought out between four sides'
St. Peters (who are on a winning roll)
Goodwood Saints
Brighton
Broadview
In saying that dependant on results all 4 could still pinch 5th spot from Tea Tree Gully

Massive win from the Rams over 4th placed Port Dist, 132 points! Iggies miles off the D1 pace losing to 8th placed Saints by 99 points. Would be unprecedented for Saints to go down, facing Broadies and Port Dist, would need a win to stay up if SPOC can squeeze another win in.

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League- Division 1
Broadies got the points over Goodwood with a huge last 1/4
PAOC beat Gullies by 49 points
St Peters beat Port District
Unsure if the win by Broadies and loss by Gullies will change their positions re percentage, im no good at Maths
appears Goody Saints will drop to Div 2 with their loss at St. Peters win

That's crazy having two teams separated by 0.3%. That's a couple of goals either way across 18 games. Hard to believe Goody Saints will be in Div 2

Broadies missed the 5 by less than 3 goals, ouch. Good year for them and a chance to build next year.
Goody Sts to Div 2, the first time ever in their history. Plus with the coach standing down this week they’d be feeling fairly down tonite.
