Re: I need to know....
The rate of tax is minimised in the first job (your wage position) as you are claiming the general tax exemption. You would have filled this out upon commencement.
The contract work would , in general, be shown on your tax return as income from the ABN that you start.
Your tax rate is wherever your TOTAL income falls,
Australian income tax rates for 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 (residents)
Income thresholds Rate Tax payable on this income
$0 – $18,200 0% Nil
$18,201 – $37,000 19% 19c for each $1 over $18,200
$37,001 – $90,000 32.5% $3,572 plus 32.5% of amounts over $37,000
$90,001 – $180,000 37% $20,797 plus 37% of amounts over $90,000
From the ATO:
Generally, if you're considered a contractor (sole trader with an ABN) you will be required to withhold your own tax and pay your own super. As an employee, your tax is withheld from your pay and super is paid on your behalf (if you're eligible) by your employer. You can find more information about working as an employee or contractor on our website.
As a contractor, you need to report all income you've received under your ABN as this is considered assessable income. Find more information about what to include in your assessable income here. As no tax is withheld from payments made to you, you may wish to enter into the Pay as you go (PAYG) instalment system, where you can make regular payments towards your expected end of year tax liability.
Any expenses you've incurred in running your business that directly relate to earning your assessable income may be claimed as a deduction. You must have spent the money for your business and you must have records to prove it. If the expense relates to both business and private use, you can only claim the business proportion. You can find more information about income and deductions for business here.
When you lodge your tax return, we'll calculate your tax liability based on the information you've provided. When it's finalised we'll send you a Notice of assessment (NOA). Any tax credits paid during the financial year will go towards your tax liability and if there hasn't been enough credit's paid during the year you may end up with a tax bill.

Re: I need to know....
Cheers Doc, about what I expected as I have done courier work many years ago and had to do my own PAYG quarterly.
I'll have to delve further into it on this occasion as I want to present my current employer a business proposition for something that they outsource and struggle for efficiency and quality.
It wont be worth it to me if I'm going to get whacked with a heap of tax as it will be after hours and Sundays that I will be looking at doing the extra stuff.

Re: I need to know....
Anyone had issues with topics on here not loading on here in the last month or so? Asking mostly for people who used phones and tablets to use the site. On countless occasions I've had to reboot the site/tapatalk app after topics I try to enter won't load. That was until today and now everything seems to be loading without any issues. Weird.

Haven't had any issues but I dont use tapatalk.
If I havent had a topic load in the past it was usually because I had shitty internet.

Only odd thing I've got going on is the footy for the General Discussion forum isn't red anymore, it's gone grey, all the others are red.

Re: I need to know....
Always a lot of talk about the money thrown around in local footy and cricket.. I want to know - is womens sport the same? Do ladies get paid well for netball and/or football?
Note - not in anyway looking to drive some gender pay related debate.. just wondering if women chase cash for sport too.

I know a Premier League Soccer female player who gets $50 a game, we were discussing this on Tuesday. Max at her club is $150

Re: I need to know....
Premier league netballers get paid, for most it's 2 court training sessions a week plus gym sessions and a Friday night game. If they're any good you can add on rep teams and other various academy trainings.
Some great players playing down Victor way that would still walk into any premier league team that wouldn't be playing for free
