Lead 322 with 5 overs remaining, almost worth the gamble of a declaration and have 2 overs at them

I know they have Rogers (all depends how long he lasts) there to be the one who goes about his business. But if Warner keeps achieving low scores, how long will CA keep affording to have a player like him in the side?

Just a thought. Not saying that he will just a hypothetical.

Wow, this post is staggeringly bad. For one, he's scoring bucketloads of runs. This series he's averaging 53, no way can you say he's out of form! Particularly when you consider he copped on on the thumb in Brisbane and then another this test on the arm that clearly hampered him. Secondly he usually does get out playing defensive shots. It's not like he can't pick the balls to put away or that he can hit. He just hits bad balls, respects good ones. To those who din't understand the game (like you) it can seem like a lottery but it's certainly not. Thirdly the quicker you score, the greater chance of winning a game you have. When players scored at 2 runs an over it seemed like every game was drawn or very nearly. These days draws seem exciting because they're so rare and often require something unusual to happen. There are a bunch of other reasons it's better, but I guess I'm no chance of you understanding them. Take it from Bill Lawry or Ian Chappell then. Those guys are often critical of guys who don't score quickly and praise batsmen who do purely because it's a better method.

If I was Captain I would bat for 8 overs and aim for another 40 odd to take the lead to 360+. Worst case we get bowled out in 3 or 4 overs and the lead is 340ish.

Would leave us 86 overs and obviously give us a fresh nut with 6 overs to go weather permitting.

Having said that I also would have no problem with them pushing towards 400 and taking an hour to do it. Don't give the sooks a chance. Nothing wrong with a 2-0 lead and series win going into Sydney.

I really hope we don't declare overnight.

Agree I think we can afford to be abit more defensive with our declaration knowing even if we set them 375ish they are gonna have to have a crack if they wanna keep the series alive

Though I have to admit I would find it amusing if we just batted normal and batted through to the mid afternoon and then watch this bunch of front running sooks spit the dummy

Why wouldn't we slog so much it's not funny until we get bowled out. Maybe another 20 mate another 70 doesn't matter it won't take long that way and eat into our overs.

That's why we should have declared ... none of this keep everything safe crap, you don't win matches by trying to be safe.

England and South Africa say hello.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

The onus is on them to try and win. I would certainly want them having to go at 4 an over. Less than 3.5 if they bat well on this pitch they will win.

Winning test matches is obviously a key but winning the series has to be the number one objective. No reason to place that in jeopardy.

I will admit that I would have thought I may have seen a shot in anger in the first 4 overs

I'd love a wide shot of the ground so I can see where all the bloody fielders are  Maybe get Gilly in to show us the virtual field

Safe to assume by our early progress that we will be at the crease for an hour this morning if not bowled out. Not the fireworks I expected but if it's frustrating the sooks it's good enough for me :D
