You're doing well then REB to be so settled

I have gone through about 10 different structures (some fairly similar to each other) and each time I reckon I've nailed it. Then I see another idea somewhere and re-think things and I'm off on another tangent especially when certain players look good and then bad (or don't match the hype) as the pre-season unfolds.

Andrew Krakouer has been in and out a few times, for example. Because he's $200K and MPP it's not straight forward just to bring him in and out as a straight swap for another $200K player.

I had a team pretty much locked, but after the weekend's games I've been tweaking it back and forth. Most of my indecision revolves around the forward line. There are also way too many juicy rookies to choose from.

I read on FanFooty that Knights has already done Quad this pre-season. Not sure if this is true or not but not going for Knights or that other fool's gold Petrie either. Hopefully I've made the right call.

They said it was just soreness but you never know with Knighta  no risks were taken! I guess we will see if he lines up this week.

OK Billy, if you're so footy smart why aren't you in the Hogg? We could always use more coaches.

Playing Dream Team for the 2nd year - just wondering what others thoughts are re: selecting your team at the start of the year - do you use up all your cash and hope for increases in value to enable trading up or do you leave some $'s in the bank.

Keep some cash. It is generally the players underperforming you get rid of.

Why keep cash? That cash could now be used to upgrade a mid-pricer to a premium who is more likely to score 100+ points from the get-go.. You are basically turning away 30-50 points a game.

You can also turn a rookie into a premium with cash.
There are a lot of different tactics and strategies out there.

But until you do you'll technically always be short of points.

Agree, I always spend up because you can't really go backwards if you pick the right rookies.

Based on an assumption or history that means nothing next game?

Based on an extrapolation from several seasons worth of statistics.

Put it this way:

If you've got money in the bank, then I'd be almost certain that you have a mid-pricer in your team. It is notoriously difficult trying to pick a mid-pricer who will become a premium - only 1% of mid-pricers increase their average by 30 PPG. Whereas it is far easier picking a premium who will maintain their average of 100 PPG, and maybe you'll get lucky and they'll average 110+ PPG.

In the end, the majority of mid-pricers will require an upgrade (because of the low strike rate), so you end up spending that money at some point during the year. Spend the money now and get more points from the very start.

I think it comes down to risk management. 8)
Are you prepareded to risk money on players on the field that you believe will get better, or leave it in the bank where it stays the same!

The Axel Rose approach is normally best (Guns and Rookies or GnR), or variations of. Picking which mid price players are going to have breakout season is the most difficult task in SuperCoach and quite frankly I'm having none of it this year. My only mid pricers this year are Jolly and Higgins (crosses fingers) as I think they can cane their numbers from last year.

This is the worst year to have money in the bank because of all those juicy rookies. Madness if ya ask me, which yer didn't anyway. ;)

Hmmm, those are my two mid-pricers too REB #-o

Did I read somewhere that Chappy is under an injury cloud? There seems to be a dearth of reliable forward line options.

Chappy hasn't played all pre-season and I have heard the injury rumour too.

Given the round 6 bye problem he creates, his age and injury history I am going to make him an upgrade target and give myself some time to look at him. $566K is a hell of a lot to spend on someone with those 3 question marks. I had him locked in until this last week.

Yeah, I had him locked in too, but am questioning that. Really struggling with my forward line at the moment, question marks over a lot of the premiums.

Will Steve Johnson return to his best?

What are peoples thoughts on jack riewoldt. He is going to get loads of attention this year from opposition defences. Is there more appealing options in the $450-$500 bracket?

Has anybody got him in their side?
