With the amount of funds pumped in Lyndoch Oval I can't see an alternative country venue happening any time soon, I do however think your idea has merit, I thought the same thing over the weekend, McLaren region is another great showcase for the state, I think we were more than blessed with the weather as far as the Barossa experiment is concerned, I wonder how it would've went if it was raining.wenchbarwer wrote:The CBD to Lyndoch is 69km/58 mins, while the CBD to McLaren Vale is 40km/41 mins, according to Google Maps right now. McLaren region is more than doable, the Southern Expressway gets you right to the doorstep. I think maybe a rotation of Barossa/Hills/Fleurieu as the regional ground each year would be a great way to showcase the city. The Bedge wrote:I'd say South Adelaide might be the furtherst they'd venture.whufc wrote:My guess would be that if there is an expansion on venues next in line would be down Fleurieu somewhere.
AFL still wants more people central, and the beauty of Gather Rd is the ability to attend multiple games without much fuss.. if games are starting to push out to the regions it dilutes that "atmosphere" around the CBD.
I went to Norwood Saturday though.. didn't rate it.

Re: Gather Round 2025
How much did they pump into the Summit? Could be an opportunity to get a showcase oval in the area, election's coming up so a chance to add Federal dollars to State/Local/AFL monies and have a similar set-up down south as well.
Then you have a major venue that could be used each year for the SA Country Champs.

Re: Gather Round 2025
Dunno, but it cost me about $550 and 3 demerit points as they dropped the speed limit on that road because of it. To be fair the Summit looks like the Temu version of Lyndoch.wenchbarwer wrote:How much did they pump into the Summit? Don’t underestimate the political clout the large wineries have in SA and guess where most of them are located.wenchbarwer wrote:How much did they pump into the Summit? Not ideal by Willie. Port have the upper hand on the rivalry and Willie is just giving them ammo for next time. No doubt was told to delete it.

Re: Gather Round 2025
The AFL needs more genuine rivalries especially for the interstate sides. Let them go...
Hinkley's silly behavior last time didn't mean that the Hawks came out fired up and beat them Sunday so it won't have any bearing next time either. It's all just a bit of fun and banter.

His post had nothing to do with anything but the HFC handling of the racism affair as he said it wasn’t about the players

I did have a Numpty crows supporter wearing a beanie sitting next to me clapping both teams.mots02 wrote:It was West Coast v Carlton…. So many people around me clapping when either team scored was a bit different.
Lacked any real atmosphere coz of this.
But the Blues got their 1st win so was a great day at AO.
34 degrees is a bit hot for a beanie but whatever works!
He was drinking a pint of beer and a can of hard solo.
I thought he was holding it for someone until he can back with the same.
Beer then hard solo……rinse and repeat 5 times
Who the **** drinks a beer then hard solo then beer then hard solo……….?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Re: Gather Round 2025
I went to Lyndoch on Saturday and enjoyed it, it was bloody hot but sun was at on our back in the temp stands so manageable. We parked at Williamstown and caught the first bus into Lyndoch, got there just as the gates opened, perfect. Apart from the result the in ground experience was excellent, much better organised than Mt Barker. The issue we had was getting out of the town, no co-ordination of the buses so people just piled onto them with no queues etc and then they have buses going in different directions and not having the correct signage…nightmare. My wife ended up getting one seat on the Williamstown bus while myself and #1 son went made sure the beer was cold at the pub while we waited for her to come back to get us. The government did a good job in keeping traffic away from the town as there was very little, if we are playing out there next year I will drive (and I suspect many more will also, which defeats the purpose)
Went to Norwood last year and loved it, used portable toilets which were fine.
Mt Barker wasn’t built for Gather Round, hence not as well prepared, and isn’t in a great spot for crowds to get to easily.
