Some of the hardest workers are holding the pyramid up.

Ok Booney, I have no idea about what you are talking about. Your opinion is the only correct one. You have obviously employed a lot of people.

I have been through many businesses in the last 28 years, I think I am very qualified to talk about this. I have plenty of experience with this and people's work ethic, personal growth and expectations.

It sounds like you have your business hat on and not your empathy hat! ;)

I don't agree with paying double time on Sundays but some form of penalty rates still need to be in place to protect the employee.

What about protecting the small business owners who create all these jobs often at huge financial and emotional cost?

Hey, that's their choice, they don't have to do that. ;)

They could choose something else and just work harder.

Amber was talking about it being hard to live on $800 a week for a family which would be very difficult, just pointing out that for low income earners there is extra assistance

(One last one)

You're right, they should just choose to earn $150k P.A instead.

I choose to earn $150k a year.........unfortunately for me, my CEO chooses not to pay it!!

That's because he is having to pay so much in penalty rates

Reducing penalty rates will help small business owners.....but abolishing them altogether helps no one.
It's a fine line.

That's extremely patronising IMO. Does everyone have the same capacity? Is every hospitality or retail worker below the intellect of someone who is "educated"?

Of course everyone has varying skillsets and intelligence. But my point was if someone wants to get some sort of education, those personal traits are likely the only barrier.

I didnt mean it that everyone can get a uni degree or something. But forklift tickets or tafe certificates are within reach and affordable for everyone if they so desire.

Nope, that's what they want you to think. The level of people in Australia on welfare has fallen significantly over the past decade.

It's all in the way they produce the figures

You work one hour a week and you are taken off the unemployed rate.

Those are unemployment statistics.

Australia's welfare statistics can be seen in plain daylight, and it's easy to find interactive graphs on the web that separate figures for newstart, aged pension, DSP etc. and how our welfare to GDP ratio compares to other countries

I was just using that as an example and how figures can be manipulated

Here ya go, knock your socks off with these figures:

http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?datasetcode=SOCX_AGG

We ranked 25 out of 30 in the OECD in terms of expenditure for unemployment.

FYI, aged pension makes up the majority of our total welfare budget.

I'm just spewing tradies earn so much. When I was at school you went into a trade if you were too dumb to get past year 9.
I'm spewing because 2 of them have moved next to us paying $520 per week rent and have a shit taste in music and no community awareness.
I'd rather people in hospitality get more and these morons got a lot less and moved back to the far northern and southern suburbs.
Thank christ its a 6 month lease only. ;)

Having very recently ( in the last two weeks ) looked at TAFE courses for Little Miss Boon I can tell you they simply aren't. Cert III in Barbering and Hairdressing - 18 months - $19,000.
