Re: Australian Tour to Sri Lanka - Jan 2025
A few numpties on my FB going off about Smith declaring before Carey reached 50.
Like really? Does he miss out on a 5 schooner award? 96 not out and I could understand.

Got my games mixed up. New it was early in his career for some reason my brain remembers it 'being a thing'.The Dark Knight wrote:No they didn't?whufc wrote:Doug Bollinger and Mitchell Johnson opened the bowling on Doug's debut against South Africa.

They did however open the bowling together in his third test match against the West Indies in the second innings of the second test in Adelaide in December 2009.

And both innings of his forth test, the third test of that series in Perth.

Re: Australian Tour to Sri Lanka - Jan 2025
The bowling between the 2 sides was chalk and cheese. Sri Lanka had horrendously slow and low spinners that the only way any Australian got out was through their own lack of concentration. Australia on the other hand had blokes ripping it down faster and asking questions of the batsmen. I was asked the question when was the last time any touring side in a Test featuring Australia put up 650 in their first innings of a series either home or away? I can’t remember an Australian side or any touring side doing it without checking the records.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Not 650 but Englands 1/517d in the 2010 first test at the GABBA is an effort and a half.LaughingKookaburra wrote:The bowling between the 2 sides was chalk and cheese. I found one involving Aus and I think it's the only one.
1st Test of the 2009 Ashes at Cardiff. Australia made 6/674 in reply to England's 435. England held on for a draw with Jimmy and Monty surviving for about 70 balls late on day 5.

Re: Australian Tour to Sri Lanka - Jan 2025
The highest first innings score in the first test of a series by Australia is 6/735 declared against Zimbabwe in Perth in 2003 (when Hayden made 380). That was a two test series.LaughingKookaburra wrote:The bowling between the 2 sides was chalk and cheese. The one DTH referenced is 6th on the list of Australia's highest totals. Australia's first innings in Galle in this current match is 13th.

On behalf of the Alexander Carey fan club
Congrats to Josh Inglis for his debut ton- magnificent batting to watch- I didnt know he was that good
Josh ended up with a brilliant 102 off 94 balls
Means he made his ton in less than 94 balls
Question
Is that the fastest debut ton for a number of balls faced in Test Cricket ?

Any 100 on debut pre-1970-ish doesn't have balls faced recorded.
