From our metro beaches to anything 10 hours away is worth visiting.

Never take for granted how lucky we are to live here.
Spot on!
Rapid Bay is up there with Flaherty’s beach as my favourites
Where's the nearest pub?
The esky!
Plenty of cold ones had on the beach admiring the views

The women of Rapid Bay planted the oval so their kids could have somewhere to play in the 1950s. I think my Nanna got paid a shilling a day by the company when they planted all the runners.
Excellent, I wouldn't have thought Rapid Bay would be a thriving metropolis, doing well to have a cricket team.

For some reason whenever I go away I need to spend the Saturday arvo having a punt in the local.

I guess I could use the app for one Saturday.

May have posted this before but the view from my grandparents front yard (#2) for over 30 years before they moved over the other side of the creek after my grandfather retired.

You may know it as Rapid Bay but to my family it is "home"
Who owns those properties today?
Always vacant when we are here in January which seems weird?

Rapid Bay is divided in two, all the land on the North side of the creek is council land, the land on the South side is all owned by the farmer Croser .Only people who are working for Adelaide Brighton Cement can live use those houses. So they've all been basically empty for over 30 years. Croser was p!ssed when he found out the 20 odd houses on the North side were freehold when BHP sold up in 1981 to ABC. My grandparents brought a beach facing house for $28K in 1982 and sold it for $125K in the late 90s

it's a shame. it will be interesting to see what happens when he falls off the perch as his kids have all moved away. One of the houses on the South side next to the school (so not facing the beach) recently sold for about $900K.

My grandparents old house which is basically a 3BR and 1 Bath with an external toilet under the back verandah ( the 2nd house from the jetty), will go for at least $1.5 Mill if it was put on the market today.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Thanks for the backstory … always wondered myself.

It’s a ghost town that lots of people go to … used to go there heaps on the old jetty and stay at the campground.

Has the closure of that jetty (I know the bloke that authorised its closure, always give him heaps about it  ) made much of a difference on numbers these days?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Is the shop still there?

A new, much shorter public jetty was built in 2009 along side of the much longer old Adelaide Brighton Cement jetty, which has been left to rot, and is now mostly in ruins.

Yeah, used to be a great place for takeaway food, grog, bait and the daily essentials. Sold fuel there too

Just checked the camping ground fees … $12.50 per person per night

I remember when a site was $3, and that’s if you bothered paying …
