Whilst I dont agree with the batteries at all, your understanding of how they work with the grid is incorrect. They are not to power the entire state but to create the additional 100MW needed at leak times. Its the political mantra to look at this not technically or understand it but from a position of ignorance.

The state owned power plant is diesel and will be gas. I like this one to be honest but it would be better if it was a market player. However the risk of load shedding and blackouts has been reduced.

The state lacks another decent generation source and the libs plan of another interconnector to NSW is terrible. NSW relies hugely on Qld and the large black coal plants. In essence so will SA now.

Problem is Capt. Marshall will be the next premier and we might be selling of the asset that will keep us going in the peak times.

On our politicians, unfortunately you are so correct its not funny. We may have the worst set of politicians in the country and probably in our states history.

Let me also add that the SA power price has actually settled a bit at the moment. This has actually been a result of the work of the Federal government in terms of gas supply. They have put in measures and the price of gas has settled. Hence our largest generation source has also settled.

Manufacturing is finally closing the last set of doors and thousands of South Australian jobs go with it.
The Northern suburbs are going to be hit the worst, without being stereotypical it's an area that can least afford it.
Employment opportunities are drying up in many areas, especially full time employment for semi-skilled youths.
Construction has been kept afloat by the government spending money it doesn't have.
Our state leaders are arguing with the other state leaders and federal government about how to sure up our electricity supply.
We're paying more for power than any other state in the country and almost all countries on earth AND it's hardly reliable.

I love living here, I'll never leave but I fear for what the future holds for my two young adults at home and what their chances are of the great Australian dream ( 1/4 acre, 3 beds and a shed ).

This state is a basket case.

I do like graphs. I especially like them when the Y axis isnt cut and start at 0. SA received (is that dollars per person?) $750 vs Queensland's $700 and that means we're a basket case and they're living the dream?

Please.

There are some issues, but I'd take living in Adelaide, SA over 99.9999% of the world's major cities. I think it's more of a case that as a state we're spoilt and have a sense of entitlement to be honest.
