Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s playing future is in the hands of the AFL amid calls for the troubled star to be stood down, Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says.

The number one draft pick has not played a game this season because of personal issues, and it is unclear when or whether he will return to action.

Prominent past players have led calls this week for the Bulldogs to stand down Ugle-Hagan after new vision of the 23-year-old partying emerged on social media.

“I try not to think about the social media side of things too much,” Beveridge said on Thursday.

"At the moment the decision-making in regards to Marra’s future and what that entails is significantly in the AFL’s hands.

“We’re waiting on them to do certain things and we’re continually interacting with them and working through it to work out what’s best for Marra.”

I had my concerns for him initially but he clearly has no qualms in collecting the coin to go party while his mates on shitloads less do all the hard work.

He'd have a pretty healthy retainer and then I'd imagine he'd be on some income protection given the circumstance surrounding his absence.

I remember hearing somewhere that players pay frequency varies with age/years on a list, the younger ones get paid more often.

I do love watching the kid and hope that he finds his way back out on the field ASAP, it's easy for us to cast stones from afar as in our minds we'd love to be in the same position, it would be a big culture shock to be borrowing $50 off the olds one minute then a few months later on mega dollars.

It's a tricky one. The guy clearly has mental health issues, and if him spending time with friends like he is doing is ways to recovering his mental health then you would think this is the right way to go. The issue long term is is he cut out for AFL football then and the pressures, training, professionalism that comes with it?

The constant social media stuff isn't helping at all - stay off it mate, even if you are out getting shit faced! All it does is invite every man and his dog in to have an opinion - and if you're struggling with mental health, then opening yourself up to scrutiny from the country is certainly not going to help.

The vibe he gives off is that he is untouchable and he doesn't give a **** about anyone else he's going to do what he wants.. and sadly that'll be his undoing.

Who is advising him?
His manager has to be having some say in all this. But he or she isn't going to bollock him too hard because he is a cash cow.

A lot of clubs prefer to do set contracts these days, makes it much easier to balance the books. If you get a heap of 'base + match payment' guys playing most of the season, get's really hard to stay under the cap, considering you have to pay a minimum of 95% of it at the start of the year. 5% is bugger all wriggle room, and the less unexpected payments, the better.

Daniel, and to a lesser extent, Macrae were not seen as fitting into the way the Bulldogs want to play. Smith wanted the extra Cotton On cash and the "lifestyle" down at Corio Bay. I'm not convinced it's a culture issue just yet.
