Brayshaw signs a 6 year deal to stay at Melbourne.
Oliver signed a 7 year deal early this year as did Petracca.

Re: 2022 AFL Season
Its obviously about trying to win the flags whilst your in your premiership window.
Offer a long deal, back end the big dollars so you can keep your current squad together and knick a flag or two.
I guess they figure in 7-8 years time they will be in a rebuild and will have a lot of younger players who at that point wont be demanding as much.
If they can sneak a second or third flag in this window and then bottom out in 2027, 2028, 2029 I don't think they will be too fussed. Especially the current staff who keep their jobs and their will most likely not be around at that point.
If there next 8 years looked like this would you take it????
2022- Flag
2023- Flag
2024- 5th
2025- 8th
2026- 12th
2027- 14th
2028- 16th
2029- 18th.

Re: 2022 AFL Season
They might be on $700-800k x 6/7 instead of $900-$1m x 4/5 though, you don't get big money and 7 years regardless though they lose Jackson to Fremantle 100% now.amber_fluid wrote:Isn’t Maxy on big $$ as well.Booney wrote:Brayshaw signs a 6 year deal to stay at Melbourne.

May and Lever would have to be in the 700k bracket as well.Booney wrote:They might be on $700-800k x 6/7 instead of $900-$1m x 4/5 though, you don't get big money and 7 years regardless though they lose Jackson to Fremantle 100% now.amber_fluid wrote:Isn’t Maxy on big $$ as well.Booney wrote:Brayshaw signs a 6 year deal to stay at Melbourne.

We could assume Melbourne have Lever, May, Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw on $650-700k+. Call it $700k x 6 = $4.2m of the $13.45m cap.

If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

Re: 2022 AFL Season
I think most clubs that have won a flag or had sustained success would follow the same model. It's the next batch of lower level players who leave slowly and you can cover them off but in 3-4 years down the track you wish you had them as the new kids coming through aren't at the same level & don't get the development chances early in their career. Seeing a prime example of it at Richmond now.Armchair expert wrote:Viney wouldn't be looking under the couch for loose change either.
Below are some names that the good teams over the last 15 years have lost, not many huge names but a lot of handy players. Would expect Melb to have a similar impact in next 3-4 years, starting with Jackson.
Tigers: Ellis, Butler, Higgins, Markov
Hawks: Hill, Duryea, Suckling, Birchall
Cats: Varcoe, Byrnes, Christensesn
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
