Re: 2013 SANFL GRAND FINAL Norwood v Nth Adelaide
Well done North for providing great atmosphere and for providing a hard contest. 3 mins into the 3rd quarter after goal 4 I was a bit worried but our boys held on and pulled away in the last.
Nathan Bassett paid his respects to North at Coppers last night and I believe no other club would have got as close to Norwood as North did.
Norwood's structures and on ball pressure was the difference in the end.
Great to finally achieve back to back.
For those of you neutral supporters who did not enjoy the game ... stiff shit. The day was about Norwood and North with the best team all year eventually winning a well deserved flag.

Re: 2013 SANFL GRAND FINAL Norwood v Nth Adelaide
Feeling very seedy today. Deliriously happy, but sick as a rotting corpse.
You know that point when you have to decide between 'never again' and 'avoid hangovers, stay drunk' ?
What a great Granny. Big crowd, big rivalry, big expectations and big bold efforts by both clubs.
I normally have butterflies in the tummy before a GF, but this time around it was truly rewarding to
have so much belief in our squad. No nerves at all. Not cockiness, just supreme confidence that this
Norwood team could handle anything thrown at them and still prevail.
And North threw the kitchen sink, dishwasher and various other appliances along with their challenge.
Congratulations Roosters! Your blokes had a red hot dip that really made us earn the 2013 flag.
The match was often billed as this year's best offence Vs this year's best defence and it didn't disappoint.
I thought we opened up as clinically as possible. The Legs press suffocated most North forays and
forced some valuable turnovers. I wish our first three shots on goal hadn't missed, it would have made
for a far more comfortable day out.
Although rightfully proud of our defensive coverage, there were many examples of North's attacking
speed that caught us napping. That multi player lateral linking handball run straight up the guts was
a worry for me. Very Sturt/Oateyesque. And the quick switcheroo that saw North express the ball
forward uncontested down the eastern flank sure had our boys scrambling to cut it off. A win is always
more satisfying when you have to fight for it and North Adelaide should be congratulated for making
us do just that. Despite a couple of Norwood selection queries, I predicted we'd inflict a Grand Final
thrashing. The Roosters had other plans.
The fact that it didn't all go our way just makes this Premiership sweeter. Gotta love Back2back !
Having followed some of the 'running gags' on The Roost and Redleg Talk over the years, perhaps
you'll allow me to sum up the result of yesterday's game thus .......
CHEESECAKE defeated Porridge by 40 points !
And now ................... MORE P!SS !!!
Luv,
Sabre.

Re: 2013 SANFL GRAND FINAL Norwood v Nth Adelaide
Interesting to hear whicker on the radio saying how great it would be to have port and crows reserves playing before crows and power on Anzac Day at Adelaide oval, next year. Be funny if it was in lieu of a north, Norwood game.[/quote]
That is an absolute disgrace, and just goes to show what the SANFL is going to become if the football commision gets it's way. Sack the whole bloody lot of them. And while I am at it what a bloody disgrace that the footy express wasn't running yesterday. I know off people that couldn't get a park and turned around and went home. And shutting the bars 20min after the game and telling everyone to piss off out of the joint. Almost as if they DON"T want to make money. At $8.20 a beer.
Back to the game, well deserved win to Norwood. The Roosters needed everyone firing to win that match and unfortunately some had a flat day and were well held. Bring on the cricket.

The grass was like a billiard table but then again the surface at Footy Park has always immaculate ... pity the stadium is now obsolete.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Given it was the final GF at Footy Park I thought it was cheap by the SANFL. At least they tried something different last year with the Rolling Stones coverband. Admission price must have been straight profit today! (I know there were 1000s of freebies but there were 1000s of paying spectators too).
Geez, weren't you happy with the singing mascots at 1/2 time, mini-league game, touch football oldies running around and the big announcement that the house lottery would be drawn at 3/4 time ? It's so hard to please you guys![]()
The SANFL marketting department must have planned this for months !
There simply was no money in the budget to have more than what they did from an entertainment perspective...

Personally I have always hated half time entertainment, I go for the football and a chat with my mates during the break not an ear full of noise.

My boys just didn't have enough fuel in the tank to take it out but gave it a crack for most of the game.
Well done Norwood, best team all year and best team today, well deserved.
Norwood supporters were great, North supporters were great and brought back memories of the true atmosphere Footy Park could have which I haven't seen there for at least 15 years. It really was a step back in time today with such an enthusiastic loud crowd, my son brought his Port Power best friend and he said he'd never heard or felt anything like today.
Congratulations Norwood, too good and well deserved!
Agree with all of what Wedgie said (even the Norwood stuff)
Very proud of North's performances over the finals, Norwood played the best (not always entertaining but did what they had to do) footy for most of the day, in the end I thought the score board flattered Norwood a bit, I think we were a bit closer than the final margain.
Well done Norwood, we'll be coming for you next year!!

Agreed the North banner was sensational, brought back memories of their efforts back in the 85-87 GF's
Well done as well to the Eagles supporters who built two banners to support the U18 & reserves sides.

There is only one thing that would put me off going to watch Norwood in a GF ..... death, my own death.

You're kidding, right?
You can leave your seat and go get a drink or something to eat, even get a pass out and leave the arena...
You are not consigned to your seat the whole time...

Re: 2013 SANFL GRAND FINAL Norwood v Nth Adelaide
Some players who were impressive that I haven't taken any notice of in the past:
Fuller: His long left foot broke the game open for Norwood when needed.
Keller: Really composed and tough in the back lines for North.
Shannon: Thought he was responsible for getting North going when on ball at the start of the 3rd.
Would think the first two would be a chance to take their football further? Shannon probably a typical SANFL mid who hasn't quite got the attributes to go further. Just googled him and see the Port Magpies got rid of him a couple of years ago. North's gain I s'pose.

Yep, Fullers left leg has a lot of Simon Goodwin in it. Quality player and quality man.
HUGE credit to North, I predicted a Norwood North gf at the beginning of the year and was correct. They will again be a team to watch next year. By the way, North banner was absolutely sensational as was their support and noise. Although you are never happy with losing a gf, you should be proud of your efforts. Hope to see you at Adelaide oval in the final game of the season next year.

Re: 2013 SANFL GRAND FINAL Norwood v Nth Adelaide
Tough, but not real attractive game of footy.
Agree with Jim05 earlier in the thread, North's potential big trump was it's taller forwards against Norwood's undersized defence, so couldn't understand why Johnston was used the way he was, especially given the wind was insignificant.
Fuller, Georgiou, Kirwan, Jeffries, just great, underrated team players. Thought Dawe's game was underrated too.
North's banner was fantastic.
Atmosphere was pretty good, but I thought 2002 and 2010 were better, but perhaps it depends where you're sitting.
