Fail to adapt and change and that is what happens. They could only rely on the 80's-90's generation for so long and even most of them have moved on to craft beers / low carb beers.

When I did shifts at the Sevenhill pub West End was by far the lowest selling beer. Superdry, Greater Northern, Coopers, Coronas, Iron Jack sold far more than West End.

West End is easily still the best seller at our pub and other pubs I've drank at.
Other beers only give it a run for money if they're on special. Its usually only the occasional visitor that isn't a regular that will have a beer like a Corona, Peroni, etc.
Great Northern, Superdry, Pale Ale and Calrton are the only other beers we haven't swapped around due to poor sales. XXXX almost held a spot.
Ciders are on a real downhill slide atm too, that started late last year.

Obviously your pub & the other pubs you drink at are in the minority otherwise they wouldn’t be shutting shop
FWIW at my local, very few drink West End. Carlton Draught easily sells the most followed by Coopers Pale.

Chucking a 6er of WED stubbies in the fridge now to drink tonight and reminisce.
It’s a sad sad day!

Looks like it will only be Carlton Draught from now on for me.

Don't think it's so much that (even though they're your old fashion front bars more than artsy crappy wankerfest) , it's just pubs like that are getting so many less people in these days. Because of Covid we had to get rid of happy hours, raffles, the pool table, etc resulting in a big downturn.

Last time West End was sold at Adelaide Oval it was easily the best seller at the bar I worked at despite being only in cans and not on tap. Got heaps of complaints at the cricket after we stopped selling it.

Marketing might have something to do with it too as 3 places I worked never even had it.
Like decent cider, Carlton Draught is getting rarer and rarer too, I'm always looking out for it as my mate drinks it.

Anyway I support a South Aussie company and will go up to the bar at the Royal now and grab another Pale. ;)

West End is a great beer. Still buy it regularly. It's become sadly fashionable in the last 20 years or so to bag domestic mass made product of all kinds..and this is where we wind up.

Are we allowed to play 8 ball now?
I guess pubs have moved them to make more space.

This is the worst day of 2020, the only thing that could possibly come close now is two more Port Power victories.
I would say at my cricket club its 50/50 between WED and Superdry, odd bit of Great Northern. Cant go past the 30 can block.
Has beer consumption dropped away as a whole during the lockdowns we had? There was no social interaction, it certainly would follow that less beer was drank.

Recreational drugs eating into beer consumption amongst the younger generation? Discuss...

i suspect its a big issue at Footy clubs around the state.

Im actually surprised it lasted this long, it used to be basically the only beer in SA, then faced competition from other brewers and now has faced further competition from craft brewers, writing has been on the wall for a while IMO

Went from Southwark to west end in the 70's.

West End themselves have said sales are at a record low so you must have just struck gold with the pubs you have been at or they have the worst business model on the planet.

Absolutely.

Even in my later clubbing days drugs like ecstasy were the affordable stimulator of choice. Back then it was pay $40 get a couple of pills and have a whole night of entertainment or spend $200-$300 on alcohol over the 5,6,7 hours of partying, potentially throw up and wake up with a hangover.
