Weed had already left and gone to Gaza, Paul Dorian coached us that year and that was our last year in div 1. We lost five games by under 3 goals and relegated by six points. Club never really recovered from that point.
I reckon O'Connor was coach at the time
We were all giving Shrek a hard time on here
You are amazing Jimmy, Matt Golding coached Towns in 08, then Occy helped the club in their 1st year in SFL as the club was ‘financially unstable’ the interesting thing for me is half the current club can’t remember

No; I reckon Occer was coach of Kilburn when they moved up to replace Scotch in Div 2

And didnt towns leave as they wern't a fan of the promotion/relegation system? and from memory they had to move all of their juniors after a particular year to the SFL but was able to keep some in Metro South?
SAFooty.net, where you hear the community football news first
So the current posters know the facts, Edwardstown moved because of the financial benefits. It had nothing to do with SAAFL (as it was then) or promotion and relegation. At a special general meeting at the end of 2008, what was sold to the members was 1) less affiliation fees 2) 9 home games with full gate takings 3) less player payments 4) less coaching payments and the chance to become the best club in SFL. The members voted and it got over the line marginally. It was all about money. Thankfully they have seen the light with the current Board led by an incredible President in Eddie Dessman who all have strengthened the clubs finanances through hard work and good footy programmes. I was part of it all and took a backward step for some years as it didn’t sit well with me.

Ocker was the coach in 2009 that is correct, club decided to take the challenge on but lost half its squad from the year before. Think they lost the prelim to Flinders Park in 2008.
Dorian was the coach in the last year of Div 1 for the club.

Hard to know how much to read into trial game form, but Golden Grove knocking off SHOC & PAC in 2 trials, be interesting to see where they fit into Div 2 this year.
Based on those results could be very much around the mark!

They will be top 2 easy - they got great depth aswell - they would be a competitive div 1 side if they were in it this year.

Be careful on Trial Game form. SHOCs in their A grade ran 28 guys thru and had a heap of A Graders out. In their B's was more like a C/D Grade side. But saying that they did look impressive.

Div 2 is probably the toughest grade is SAAFL

If north haven could go up to Div 2 last year and finish in the top 3 I’ve got massive confidence Golden Grove can easily do it - there list is well and truely a Div 1 squad on paper - I would be very very suprised if they don’t finish top 2 this year

Div 2 is the 2nd best grade in SAAFL, because it's division 2.
Wouldn't read into trial results too much, generally the lower division teams treat it like a grand final.

Golden Grove will be in Div 1 in 2024.
They should have been in Div 2 in 2022 if they hadn't choked in 2021.
Will be the last piece of the puzzle for GG, and took them about 30 years to get there.
