Re: Things that make you laugh
On "The Project" last night there was a story about Liz Cambage and her disgust at her Opals team mate posting images of herself with her face painted black at a fancy dress party, she was Kanye West at the party.
Now, I'll say it now, I don't think she was "being" racist, but it could be seen as a racist act. I'm not sure 100% of coloured people would see it that way, but it doesn't matter, if Ms Cambage saw it that way, that's her call.
But aren't we all different, would someone white dressed in Yeezy clothing not look like Kanye? Of course they wouldn't, we are all different. So this story highlighted that, among other things, we can't acknowledge that we are different.
Now it's get humorous.
The next "story" is of a hijab wearing muslim ballerina in Sydney who is making an impression on people in the dance world, the story was all about how "different" people can still make their way in this world, how people who look different to "us" can still be like "us". ( I assume "us" is white westerners, not humans, she wear a hijab that's all, she is human like the rest of us )
Is it me, or have we all gone completely ******* mad?

The outrage engine of the internet means everything is dialled up to 11 when talking about any issue.

Still, it was ******* absurd that Cambage was the one coming under fire in some media commentary.

When is the last time you've seen a black person paint their face white to portray a white celebrity? Just doesn't happen and can probably afford the same courtesy the other way.

I once sprayed my hair grey to attend a fancy dress party as Bill Clinton. Does that make me ageist?
(I wore an op-shop suit and stuffed a massive cuban cigar into the lapel pocket. The missus bought a big-hair wig, a beret, and a blue op-shop dress upon which she designed a white stain.)

Not celebrities, but here's a couple of examples of 'whiteface':
1987 - "Coming to America"

Early-mid 2000s - Dave Chappelle

The Project is rubbish. I wonder how long it'll take before Waleed Aly cashes in his Channel 10 chips and does something with more substance, like co-host a show with Andrew Bolt (IIRC his timeslot's now free).

Yeah, he can come across a bit like that, but nonetheless I like him. He's a smart cookie and isn't scared to voice his views, but does so in a respectful way. A collector's item in today's media landscape. Too clever for commercial telly IMO. Or telly altogether.
Having said that, if I need to know something, I go straight to the source - Mark Latham. Freed from the straight-jacket of political correctness, courtesy, and respect for others, he tells it like it is.

Re: Things that make you laugh
Having a laugh with a colleague discussing when we first started here, I started as a young fella in the factory, during my first week I had to go into rework where there were 3 other blokes all had been there a while and had about 10 years on me.
They just stood around talking pretty much the whole time I was there, eventually I intervened and said "Hey, if you're gonna stand there and do **** all, could you at least do it somewhere else and not right in my way while I'm trying to work?"
One of them turned to me and said "**** off or I'll shoot ya".
Near 20 years later I see the same bloke still out in the factory and we have a bit of a laugh about it, we had many run ins when I worked on the floor.

He's very good at voicing popular opinion. ( Not just on the stupid kids as mentioned above, rightly so )
