Nope. If they do feel pressure, maybe umpiring isn't for them.

Certainly if you're umpiring league football you've got to be able to handle pressure as your presumably one of the best umpires in the state.

Need to see the replay. At the game Campbell had prior opportunity (ran for a few metres) and when he was tackled it looked like he didn't get rid of it correctly. Granted they don't seem to pay those any more, although they should. There were 50 other worse calls during the game.
Good work sit on the fence you obviously didnt see it but bask in the glory of the best run of bias umpiring I've ever seen
Suck a big one.

I know they're umpires, but they are human after all.

Yep.
Looking at the stats, the Eagles nearly won every category.

Yeah, I thought the Eagles played the better footy, overall and were probably just the better team on the day...
Early days, the home side wasted opportunities in front of goal, then it was the visitors' turn later in the game...
Was an entertaining game to call, albeit frustrating at times with a lot of decisions paid off the ball and behind play...
The Eagles winning, after the siren, cost me getting 4 from 4 in the tips and I actually picked North by 4 points, as well !!!

Re: Round 14 - Eagles v North Adelaide - POST MATCH DISCUSSI
Thought the conditions favoured the Eagles today. A dry, firm turf exposes the Eagles lack of leg speed against North. Tackling was the key as we didn't allow North's runners to get free as at Prospect. The stats favoured the Eags but North looked more dangerous in trying to score. The last decision was a poor one but skill and decision making errors by the players before that were more telling. Eags kicked badly in first half and should have been further in front at half time. North kicked badly in the last quarter and it possibly cost them the game.
Peterenko, Poole (his best game for us so far), Borholm exceptional.
Only reason Guifreda up forward was due to suspect driver and he had a fitness test minutes before the game. Master stroke by Godden!!!

I'm asking a question as to whether the Eagles are getting a 'good ride' when playing North - is it tactical in terms of tackling technique, etc.?
Has Godden 'seen' something in 'the tapes' that is a perceived weakness?
I find your responses interesting to say the least.
The Eagles get a good run every game mate, reckon the stats over the last couple of years will back that up
Free kicks this year courtesy of Scott
PAM 23.9 for 18.8 against diff + 5.1 best in league
Eag 19.9 for 21.4 against diff - 1.5 (5th I think)
NA very close to Eags in 6th spot

Re: Round 14 - Eagles v North Adelaide - POST MATCH DISCUSSI
Dear Dutchy
Umpires do influence the results of games too often
Heres what Ive done the last 2 weeks
PA V EG
Backed PA V EG at Alberton last week
PA got many more decisions in their favor, but lost
EG V NA
This time I backed EG to beat NA
I am extremely fortunate to collect
The umpiring was in favor of EG
If there was a protest by NA I would have upheld it
Bad kicking for goal is bad football , NA did squander chances in the last qtr
Had they lost because of the bad kicking, they would have themselves to blame
But to lose to a decision like that when the game ended is unfair
So there you have it, I was on 2 teams on the punt in 2 weeks that got a ride
Mr Dutchy
IF you think umpires don't influence games of football you are dellusional

Never said they didn't.
However they do not impact the game as much as some carry on.
There are around 700 disposals in a game and about 40 free kicks, who has more influence on a game umpires or players?

you answered your own point, the highlighted paragraph above
if North had of kicked goals instead of missing then the last decision of the day wouldn't have influenced the result

Re: Round 14 - Eagles v North Adelaide - POST MATCH DISCUSSI
Heres an email from an extremely knowledgeable football scribe
Everyone who was close to the decision and watching from head on, both North and Torrens supporters , reckons that it was the worst decision they have ever seen.
They reckon that not only was Campbell hit around the head, but he got a handball away when tackled as well.
Browne, on 5RPH said that he definitely handballed when tackled.

42 players
3 umpires
700/42=16
40/3=13
So each player (on average) has 3 more opportunities (on average) than an umpire to impact upon the game.
What about the :
532 bounces of the ball?
120 minutes of wind gusts?
63 seagulls sitting on the wing, waiting to be collected?
Dont underestimate their impact upon the game....
