Don't you argue the AFL is just an expanded VFL though?Pseudo wrote:YES to VFL in the SANFL!RB wrote:Easy. Trade Port Melbourne and Williamstown for the Ravens and Power reserves. So long and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

But the Grand Final must always be played at the Adelaide Oval.....heater31 wrote:Would have no issues with that. 2 very proud stand alone VFL clubs. They'll have to change their colours, well PM anyway. Wonder if all their haters and single minded supporters will cry it's not Port Melbourne anymoreheater31 wrote:Would have no issues with that. 2 very proud stand alone VFL clubs. Good idea but for that to succeed you would think it would need to be heavily funded by the AFL, the entity which so many on here despise.Dutchy wrote:its exactly what the SANFL needs and I have been advocating for years, make the SANFL a genuine 2nd tier competition that allows for players to be semi professional and have long careers if or when they don't make the top tier.
It can still develop players for the AFL but be a genuine seperate competition at the same time.

Well, if they begin doing things for the betterment of football as a whole, rather than actively undermining the validity of the leagues below the top tier, then that action would have a positive affect on the way some of us view the AFL.LMA wrote:Good idea but for that to succeed you would think it would need to be heavily funded by the AFL, the entity which so many on here despise.Dutchy wrote:its exactly what the SANFL needs and I have been advocating for years, make the SANFL a genuine 2nd tier competition that allows for players to be semi professional and have long careers if or when they don't make the top tier.

Footy needs a responsible governing body. While I don't speak for everyone, it is their actions that have earned my ire, not their mere being. That same philosophy would continue to apply.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Didn't Rob Chapman and Trigg promise to "play to the line" in the SANFL Finals when their AFL season is over?
Not playing Sam Jacobs would be exactly against that philosophy

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Word I heard is that these clubs will be in the VFL comp which might possibly expand. I think a lot of it all is still up in the air at the minute though.LMA wrote:Good idea but for that to succeed you would think it would need to be heavily funded by the AFL, the entity which so many on here despise.Dutchy wrote:its exactly what the SANFL needs and I have been advocating for years, make the SANFL a genuine 2nd tier competition that allows for players to be semi professional and have long careers if or when they don't make the top tier.

The monolith with which supporters and administrators across the board, not the least from AFL fans themselves, had many a due cause to swing their rock hammers into over the years.LMA wrote:Good idea but for that to succeed you would think it would need to be heavily funded by the AFL, the entity which so many on here despise.Dutchy wrote:its exactly what the SANFL needs and I have been advocating for years, make the SANFL a genuine 2nd tier competition that allows for players to be semi professional and have long careers if or when they don't make the top tier.

Yep cant see this getting off the ground without AFL endorsement and funds.LMA wrote:Good idea but for that to succeed you would think it would need to be heavily funded by the AFL, the entity which so many on here despise.Dutchy wrote:its exactly what the SANFL needs and I have been advocating for years, make the SANFL a genuine 2nd tier competition that allows for players to be semi professional and have long careers if or when they don't make the top tier.

GIven reserves footy is not a priority for them compared to the Northern states and womens footy, this will remain at best a good internet discussion point, IMO.
