*BUMP*
Blatter is getting worried, came out today and said there is still time to shift the date of the 2022 WC and it was a mistake awarding it to Qatar.
Average temperatures in June/July is 41 and can reach 50. He said he cant guarantee the safety of players or supporters and is looking at moving it to Winter.
This of course has got the Euro powerhouses up in arms as it would fall in the middle of their domestic season and the EPL and Bundersliga have stated they will not halt their season for the WC.
Some nations such as England and Germany are calling for a re-vote with the US the favourite to host the 2022 WC.

Of course the fact it gets hot there wasn't known at the time of the vote ... Have the FIFA delegates spent all their Qatar bribe money and want more perhaps?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

It was behind the scenes dirty voting when it was done but one of the main reasons was that Qatar said they would dismatle the stadiums and donate them to third world countries

******* bullshit if they give it to the USA they only just had it !!

It's about time England had it

We have the weather, the stadiums, the supporter base and we invented the game so it's ours

Now I think about it, the W C should be held in England every time. Most players from competing counties already live in England anyway so traveling costs would be low

What stadiums are they going to use? Etihad, MCG, SCG, Skoda, Adelaide Oval, Paterson, ANZ Stadium will all be in use for AFL games. Unless they put a 4 week bye in the middle of the season.

Pretty sure FIFA have a rule in which all major sporting leagues in the host country are put on hold during the World Cup. It's been done before, IIRC the footy season was brought forward to accomodate the Olympics.

the government put the bid in to host it in 2022. Did you forget that? so they would have worked that out im sure. If they didn't then it would have been pointless them wasting all the money to even try....

Since when did FIFA have any jurisdiction over the AFL, or any other sporting body outside soccer for that matter

It takes more than just the Football Federation to launch a bid, they may not have jurisdiction but if they don't get agreement you will make it the showpiece you don't win the bid.

IIRC the Super 14's final was played at the end of May in 2010 to accommodate the WC and as I previously mentioned the AFL season was brought forward to cater for the 2000 Olympics.

Having been to a World Cup and experiencing the atmosphere I think the other codes would be mad to try compete against it anyway.

i dont think fifa would be allowed to move say the AFL season, yet the AFL board and the government may come to an agreement to post pone the games whilst the WC is on in australia

My statement may have caused confusion. FIFA don't make the host country stop all sports, they do not have the power to do this, but it is part of the "hosting agreement" which outlines what countries should be doing to ensure a successful bid. All stadia used have to be handed over to FIFA a minimum of 15 days before the tournament.

I can't imagine any country making a serious bid would thumb their nose at a suggestion made to them by FIFA during the bidding process, unless of course they have made other arrangements (cash??).

There would be no bid that didn't involve the Government of the respective countries so I would say they would have a word in the shell like of the other sports CEO's and make it worth their while with grants etc should they co-operate.

Thought it was strange when Blatter said in 2010 that homosexuals that may visit for the 2022 World Cup would have to refrain from their usual activities as the practice was illegal in that country.

FIFA has yesterday announced to the Qatar chiefs, move the event to a cooler period of the year or lose out completely. This could put Australia back in action!!!

Qatar is keen to move it.
The EPL and other major comps dont want it moved and will threaten action
If Qatar loses it then the USA are dead certainties to host again

If qatar moves the dates to the northern winter, expect a second rate world cup. No way known the major leagues would allow a six week break in the middle a season.
