Dogger it's not letting me vote for some reason (invalid form??) I voted yes. When I was in my early 30's I thought I might be. So I went off it for two weeks to see how hard it was to give up. I believed if I really craved it, I was an alcho. If I didn't crave it, I was not an alcho. I managed the two weeks easily, so now I can drink all day every day and not be concerned about being addicted to the stuff. Joking, but it did teach me a good lesson about NEEDING vs wanting alcohol.

The definition of an alcoholic is someone who drinks more than you do.

To answer your question Dog_ger, I'd think many people on here would have what would be clinically termed an alcohol problem without being an alcoholic, as such. I think a few beers 4 or 5 days a week would be considered some form of alcoholism but is widely regarded in our community as a pretty standard level of alcohol consumption. My biggest concern, as a parent of two teenagers is the binge drinking culture associated with white spirits ( vodka etc ) and energy drinks ( Red Bull etc ). So, I know I'm not an alcoholic ( I have at least 3 alcohol free days a week ) but I sure do enjoy my Thursday night pub drop in, my Friday night beers at the baseball club and my weekend brews at home. What would you consider an alcoholic?

A truck yard in the Port had a live in resident/employee. He lived in a van on the site and would pop around to the now closed Colac on pay day for 4 x 30 pack of VB and 3 x bottle of Bundy and would be back every week to restock.

Tough one to put a number on, but I reckon that if it repeatedly causes you to make poor decisions, then it's a problem.

I would agree with this. Especially when everyone can see the damage the person is doing too themselves and those around them.
If you get pissed alone is another tip off.

Agreed, it's not simply a matter of some who drinks 5 or more days a week.
