Channel Nine Adelaide Football League?
This is an interesting read in The Bounce this week:
Kym Dillon and Tom Rehn from Nine
News tonight announced that from 2014
the South Australian Amateur Football
League will be known as the Channel
Nine Adelaide Football League.
The new name is the result of collaboration between Channel Nine and league
officials that represents the partnership
announced back in July.
Channel Nine Adelaide Managing Director, Sean O’Brien, said: “This is a brand
new era for NWS9 and our partnership
with the new Channel Nine Adelaide
Football League is one I am very proud
of.
“Community engagement is a key to our
success and what better way to do this
than with footy.
“We will be on the ground with players,
officials and umpires and grow an active
partnership that will last for years to come.”
SAAFL CEO Grant Goodall, who was part
of the naming committee, said: “We
thought long and hard about a new name
for the league and believe this reflects our
tradition while still allowing us to look to the
future.
“The Channel Nine Adelaide Football
League represents our strong partnership
with Nine and what they bring to our organisation.”
It was also announced that Nine News will
become naming rights sponsor for Divisions
4 and 5 as well as the Under 18 Red and
Yellow divisions.
Channel Nine is making a significant contribution to the league and will roll out new
initiatives over the next few weeks and in
2014. These include a new Little Legends
Clinic for junior players and Channel Nine
Kick for Cash, which will give clubs the
chance to play for a share in $10,000 worth
of prize money.

Me too. Hopefully this will give the league a higher profile in the process. Also, at least every player in the league can now say he's played (CN) AFL footy...

Re: Channel Nine Adelaide Football League?
Sounds pretty ridiculous to me.
Loving that they're on board as a sponsor/promoter, but naming the league like that????
So do I play in the amateur league now or what?
Exactly right.

Re: Channel Nine Adelaide Football League?
Stupid name but eh what's a name matter, doubt anyone will go around calling in that or refering to the comp they play in as the Channel Nine Adelaide Football League - people are too lazy anyway, it'll be AFL in no time (Adelaide Football League) or simpler still people will call it Adelaide League simple as that.
Meh play on I say

Because Channel Nine has paid for it.
As part of Channel Nine's new ownership, the network is seeking to re-establish the links it had with the community, something which dropped away under the previous owners, WIN TV. Nine has been concerned by Channel 7's market dominance in Adelaide and it's community commitment and this is one of the initiatives it has rolled out to regain the top crown.
By sponsoring the SAAFL, now the CNAFL, the network gets prominent advertising and product recognition within the state's largest sporting organisation.
Given Nine's support of the amateur league, it will be interesting to see how the other networks regard the CNAFL. I'm sure, for one, its name in any stories will be Adelaide Football League, or they'll call it the amateur league generically. Also, any negative stories about local football will be looked at a bit closer, something which I think we've seen in the past week.

Re: Channel Nine Adelaide Football League?
I believe it's also just a trading name.
SAAFL - t/a CNAFL
I see pro's and cons.
The traditionalists will be having fits.
Given that the AGM isn't for a couple of months, it gives everyone that time to get used to it - i'd think they'd be expecting a barrage of questions ...
I think the one thing everyone will agree on though is the fact we're no longer amateur.
Hopefully this ends all those stupid threads and posts about clubs spending Millions.
It doesn't matter now!

I can just see the coaches in a blind panic over focus issues to their players distracted over the CNAFL

Yeah pretty sure no one actually playing will call it the CNAFL...just refer to it as the Amateur League like we already do.
