Unlucky

Post by woodublieve12 »

I put this up as my status on facebook last friday and it made for a good discussion. so i thought i'd put it on here...

Who do you reckon is the unluckiest not to play more tests for Australia or actually never get selected to play for Australia???

Mine was Stuart Magill... Couldn't stand him but if it wasn't for Warney he would have played alot of tests.

Siddons was unlucky nit to have played at least 1 test.

Valetta was a bit unlucky too, I think he nay have played 1 (only) and nay gave gotten run out, although that was a while ago so may not be completely correct.

Before my time, but many people say KG Cunningham and Ian McLachlan were both very unlucky.

I aldo think Boof Lehmann was a little unlucky not to have played more.

Magill would have been a 100 test player had it not been for Warne.

Siddons unlucky not to play a test (he used to plunder a heap of SS runs when i first started following cricket.

Boof definately should have played a lot more tests.

Perhaps more timing than luck, but Tim Neilsen with 101 Shield matches, would anyone have played more 1st class matches without a Test?

Hooksey definately. He rose to prominance in an era where if you spoke out against the ACB, you were blackballed.

Paul Nobes probably would have played a Test if he played 10 years earlier, or later, than he actually did.

Trevor Barsby a bit unlucky too, he regularly smashed the SA attack, although admittedlythered not many half decent batsmen over thr years, who havent.

I reckon Nielsen was probably always 4th or 5th in line, and never actually that close to Test selection.

He did get an Australia A tour to Zimbabwe. I think the same tour Dizzy was on, with Steve Waugh (who had been dropped at the time). Could well be wrong.

Hookesy had his chances and plenty of them.
When he played his last game for Australia, he'd been on the Test scene for around a decade.
His only Test century was against Sri Lanka in the first contest between the two nations.

In my opinion, Siddons, Eddie Gilbert and Jamie Cox were the unluckiest not to have played Test Cricket, while Stuart Law, Brad Hodge, Darren Lehmann and Andy Bichel perhaps should have played more.

Mike Veletta played 8 Tests for a batting average of 18.81 (compared to his FC average of roughly 41), so I doubt he was really up to standard.

I also believe Bruce Reid could've been a world-beater had he not injured himself every time he walked onto the field. A bowling average of 24.64 from 27 Tests would surely back that up.
