How many goal advantage is a 130km wind from a cyclone worth?

Re: AFL Round 0.5 2025
The AFL need to make decision now as game won’t go ahead in Brisbane. Just play the game in Round 3 when they both have a Bye. Easy change. Or if they want to play this weekend then move the game to Geelong and the Round 15 game goes to Brisbane.
The harder one is the Gold Coast game as going to be just as bad weather on Saturday up there

Re: AFL Round 0.5 2025
So it's a winter sport, meant to be played outside.
I get we already stop play for lightning, so reasonable to consider moving the game, but once you move this one, where is the line drawn.
Do you move a game if 80km/hr winds are forecast?
What about 50?
I think they will move it.
Hopefully that's enough to kill off this 'opening round' for future seasons.

The "I never want to make a decision" AFL are just hoping the QLD government make the decision for them in this case.Trader wrote:So it's a winter sport, meant to be played outside.

On the other point, yes it's a winter sport and some of the more memorable experiences at the footy are sitting in the hail

I think they're hoping the cyclone will turn around completely so they don't have to cede a Thursday night to the NRL when the Broncos are playing.mighty_tiger_79 wrote:The "I never want to make a decision" AFL are just hoping the QLD government make the decision for them in this case.

It’s not just about the actual game though TBH.mighty_tiger_79 wrote:The "I never want to make a decision" AFL are just hoping the QLD government make the decision for them in this case.Trader wrote:So it's a winter sport, meant to be played outside.

Qantas and Virgin already blocking flights and moving passengers on to services next week and within the next 24hrs or so they will start pulling flights completely out in preparation for airports to close. I would think all airports in the region would shut for some time which makes logistics impossible.
Alfred has picked up some pace so I think it’s a bit rich to try and play footy when people are worried about losing their homes, flooding etc and police wand emergency workers will already have a hard time with powerlines, trees etc being felled. Just call it off or reschedule it now

The AFL love being on the front and back page and they'll milk this up to Category 2 then pull the pin.

I just don't see the AFL willingly getting on front foot and calling it off.
They're waiting for someone else to make that decision for them

Airports have started moving aircraft to safer airports and are in watch period already. Within the next 24hrs they will move to warning period and can then announce when/if the airport will close.
They are expecting 3 days minimum without power in SEQ

They aren't...MW wrote:I thought supercoach/dreamteam was not starting until rd1?
Many 'punters' were leaving out Brisbane/Collingwood players because of their early bye. If they don't have the bye anymore then their players become very appealing.
The big issues hey.
Good decision by the AFL to make the call.... already started to see the 'back in our day they didn't cancel games' posts trickle into my social feeds.
