NO MORE Brickworks
Brickworks stall holders have been given the MARCHING orders to be out by about MARCH 2012
Stall holders will be given notice in the next 2 weeks to vacate their stalls within the next 28 days
Woolworths are taking over the premises at South Road Thebarton
They intend to build Woolworths, Food Courts, Big W, and various specialty shops
The Hoffman Kiln was built on the premises way back in 1912
This year commemorates 100 years since it was built
The Brickworks Markets opened in 1983 and almost immediately was a great entertainment and a shopping precinct
Will be a sad day when the Brickwork Markets finish up next month
QUESTION
Co-exsistance
Should Woolworths rethink the process and allow Stall Holders to trade in some capacity ?
Perhaps the logic being both could co exsist and draw in more of the public ?

Re: NO MORE Brickworks
Probably should have happened 20 years ago. In fact I dont think any merchandise at the stalls changed in the last 20 years.

Re: NO MORE Brickworks
Just been tendering for the new works there, nothing special, pretty generic shopping centre. Hopefully pick it up as it would be a nice little order for me.
Any real loss? Not really, the place has been pretty crap since about the mid-90's and once the beer garden stopped it's Friday afternoon $2 schooners some year ago and the odd live gig the whole place has died a slow painful death.
One thing that was worth keeping in mind was the grog shop had $12 6 packs of pale ale more often than that.

Re: NO MORE Brickworks
Woolworths purchased the front 2/3 of the site.
The old kiln will remain in trust of the council I believe
The original idea was to let the stall holders remain up the top near the kiln during the construction phase but this has been changed due to the massive soil contamination left by the old brickworks and OHS issues

Correct, the kiln is to remain, which IMO is a good thing as something with that sort of heritage should be maintained where and when possible.
I believe the current stall holders were offered spots under the kiln once the renovations took place?*
*Not 100% on that.

Re: NO MORE Brickworks
Surprised to find it's still going, assumed it would've died in the bum years ago.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Re: NO MORE Brickworks
Todays report in the Advertiser may not be entirely correct ?
Ive been informed that about 33% of the Brickworks area is still controlled by the Council ?
Woolworths about 66% is away from the Kiln and market area ?
There is understandably plenty happening behind the scenes, and just maybe a lifeline for the popular market ?

Best I've played too. Clever idea to design the holes around features of the area.
