Home gym equipment

Post by Dissident »

Hi all

What do people have at home? I've tried gyms but I find that there's that small minute/moment where I don't go - which turns into many times of not going.

I've started working out at my mates place who has a small but effective setup. But, he's a shift worker and I can't always get there when he's home.

I've decided to start my own, start small and build it up. What do you use?

Oh, and does anyone want to sell any? :D

Cheers.

Great topic.

It's amazing how you have gyms pester you to sign up, etc. Like I tell them, I have full access to 2 footy club gyms for free which I don't use, why would I want to pay to not use yours?

I have a basic weights set with Bench and stuff plus an elliptical trainer. I am looking at getting a treadmill, but now that the days are getting longer, I am just going for more walks/ runs - plus the dogs like that more.

I like the idea of just thinking "I want to train" and then two minutes later, being able to. I know I'll do far more this way. I might end up paying a years gym membership in cost to setup something but that's ok. I don't have anything against gym membership, but you are paying to use nice equipment, get out of the house, good facilities and all that - and the social aspect too. Maybe if I was married I'd WANT to get out though :D

I'd rather just go hell for leather at home I think

Power cage + Olympic Barbell + Plates + Adjustable Bench

Done. Then you can begin with Rippetoe's Starting Strength routine and go from there.

Must admit I have just moved to the Gym at the end of my street and cancelled one that is further away. I can't really use the excuse of being too far away anymore.

still have some basic equipment at home in some dumbbells and a fit ball. Also have a set of rollers for my road bike to ride inside during winter.

That was the setup I was working towards, though with a squat rack

Can anyone suggest where to get things from? What is good?

Power cage is your squat rack.

People are often selling secondhand power cages on gumtree for inflated prices. Bargain hard for a good quality one.

Yeah I know it is but it's more expensive and takes up more space :)

Power-rack will maximise your space available while enabling you to perform they key exercises of any resistance training program. Probably takes up about as much room as a treadmill.
