Appear to have his life under control and Hawthorn with their culture and collection of brothers will be able to provide the best environment for him to perform.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Leaving kids in the U18s to standout has its advantages in terms of getting players drafted but doesnt do much for their long term prospects

You got any flimsy evidence to back up your "perception"?

Dwayne Wilson also overlooked, perhaps Battersby considered too slow

We're not one of the best - we are the best in the country at what we do.

Maybe you should play more of them in your league side instead of continually poaching from other clubs then, no good hiding these gun kids in the u18's. Your league side looked like dads army several times this year

Jim 05.........what shite you talk. The Eagles played 17 newcomers to their league side this year of which eleven came through the Eagles juniors to play their first league game for the club, how is this not promoting their juniors. When your best juniors keep getting drafted, 3-4 each year its even harder to keep qualities kids coming through to the league team but the Eagles seem to do it better than most. Also some of our better juniors are required to constantly play for their colleges which makes it extremely hard to promote them straight into the league team without disclosed form in the reserves.
Where is the evidence that the Eagles resembled Dad's army. Powell (32), Parry (29), Grocke (29) and only played 2 games and Lewis (27) were the only players over 26...........get your facts straight before shooting of your mouth.

How many of this years u18's played league footy for extended periods this year?
Norwood could of won the 18's if Dumont and Aish played but our club was looking at the bigger picture.
And I said your side looked like dad's army, had the slowest midfield in the comp and half the side were a bunch of plodders. Your u18's had some awesome talent, maybe if a couple of them played in the finals you wouldnt have been ran off your feet and embarassed by North

Compare the draftees so far in League games this season

Dunstan 3
Karpany 2
Giles 0
Knight 0
Total: 5

Dumont 12
Aish 8
Fantasia 4
Total 24

Now you tell me which club has got it right!
Add in Bampton's 6 games, and he still has another year of u18's remaining
Several games this year Norwood had 3 of the lads playing including the GF.
In round 22 when you played us you had Dunstan and Giles hiding in the u18's whilst we had Bampton, Dumont and Fantasia playing league. So the question has to be asked why Dunstan who is an amazing talent couldnt get a league game ahead some of the spuds in that side

Because Dunstan was injured in approx Round 18 or 19 and missed the remainder of the season.

Because SA U18 captain Luke Dunstan made his league debut after his State Under 18 commitments were done (as is normal for a lot of SANFL clubs) and would have probably stayed in the squad had he not incurred a season ending injury.

I believe your assertion St Kilda draftee Luke Dunstan played in Rd 22 is incorrect. He was injured.

However Alby Dunstan is named on the team sheet .... totally different player.

Feel free to confirm the team sheet yourself

As for stacking the Eagles U18 side for the grand final I know that three of the Eagles leading goalkickers over the Under 18's season
- Jackson Press (16 games, 47 goals)
- Alby "I'm Not Luke" Dunstan (10 games 23 goals)
- Tom Whittlesea (11 games 12 goals)
all were elevated to the Reserves during the finals and played in the Reserves premiership side.

As mentioned earlier, 11 league debutants from the local zone in 2013 and only 3 regular players aged over 26 ... hardly shutting out local talent or youngsters.

Now about that 100 game sledge

Following on from that it would be interesting to see how many have played 100 AFL games.
My perception would be the Eagles would be well below average on their draftees turning into 100 gamers.

By my count Eagles have about 20 players currently on an AFL list ... 7 of those .... that's 35% have reached 100 games.

Mathew Pavlich (Freo) - 291 games ..... 2013 Grand Final captain
Brian Lake (Hawthorn) - 219 games ... 2013 Grand Final Norm Smith Medallist
Mathew Stokes (Geelong) - 155 games
Bernie Vince (Crows/Melb) - 143 games
Jay Schulz (Rich/Power) - 142 games
Nathan Bock (Gold Coast) - 140 games
Scott McMahon (Kangaroos) - 117 games

Plus a few local AFL regulars not far away
Sam Jacobs (Crows) - 82 games
Matthew Broadbent (Power) - 79 games
Brodie Smith (Crows) - 54 games (in just 3 seasons)

So tell me Jim how does that compare with other SANFL clubs ...what is the average of current 100 game AFL players from SANFL clubs?

Sorry my mistake regarding Dunstan but my point still stands that some of your exceptional u18's should of played more league this year.

Karpany, Giles and Knight were all committed to play for their college during the year. Knight didn't play after the national championships because of a knee injury and Dunstan missed the last four league games with an injured ankle. Karpany missed the last six minor round games with groin injuries and played under duress in the U18s two finals.
The under 18s lost five of their first finals team to the reserves premiership team and still managed to win the U18s premiership......your pathetic and unsubstantiated arguments don't hold up.
Again, get your facts right and don't get players mixed up to try and support your rubbish.

Righto, now give us all the ones that have been drafted and have fallen off AFL lists never to be seen again before reaching 100 games since say 2000.

I'm nominating Phar Lap. I think they have it stuffed in the national museum.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Culture is better at Hawthorn now with the main bad influence being moved on.
