If he faced his own bowling consistently he would be a Blonde Don

Sorry WHUFC
I'm with TSG on this one , I can see East Coast Smith being found out within 18 months

ECS
3 tons @ a 36.40 average is better than I thought he was capable of
17 matches played , needs to start improving that average
I reckon he wont get past 30 tests

91 not out next innings
Sleepy , not a great start for us

I have been saying for a while now Siddle will eventually be found out as a one trick pony.

Eventually that trick has ended

53 Tests and 188 wickets at 29, I think he had more than 1 trick.
BTW I thought he should have been dropped as he is now a medium pacer and is lacking penetration. If he was averaging 30+ with the bat it might be a different proposition.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

Sorry can't agree the average of 29 is very generous as well especially considering batting averages around test cricket are down.

Once he lost his pace the bang it hard attack just doesn't cut it

I will always respect the bloke for his work rate and effort and he has got alot out of limited talent

Australia coach Darren Lehmann has told Peter Siddle that he must bowl quicker if he wants to force his way back into the Test side.
Siddle was dropped for the series decider against South Africa in Cape Town - which got under way on Saturday - in favour of James Pattinson.
And Lehmann admitted that the 29-year-old's lack of pace had been behind the decision.
It is the first time since November 2012 that Siddle has not featured for Australia in the longer format of the game, during which he has taken 62 wickets and was a vital part of the side that regained the Ashes earlier this year.
Lehmann blamed the pitches in South Africa for Siddle's lack of impact in the series - he has taken five wickets for 273 runs - but expects the bowler to be back in the side when the conditions suit his style.
"He's fully fit, we just wanted the extra pace and James (Pattinson) gives us that," Lehmann told the Cricket Australia website after the end of the first day at Newlands.
"They're producing wickets which don't have much grass on them and take reverse so we want the extra pace here and he's a fresh bowler, which is great.
"(It's) unlucky for Sids because he's done a great job for us over the last few Tests but we've gone for the extra pace.

"He would like some more wickets obviously but it's the pace drop. We need him bowling 140(kph) and at the moment he's averaging 131,132.
"He knows that, we've spoken to him and I'm sure he will be back bigger and stronger."

Siddle is not the only player to miss the final Test, with Shaun Marsh replaced by Shane Watson after defeat in Port Elizabeth.
Lehmann admitted Marsh, who scored 148 in the opening Test, was unlucky to lose his place in the side, but felt Watson's all-round ability gave him the edge.
"We love to have five bowlers," he added. "It's nice to have the all-rounder back, which gives us another option.
"Shaun is very unlucky but at the start of the tour we were probably going to shape up as we have today."
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

From what I've seen , he has not got what it takes to be a successful long term Test cricketer

3 Tests
186 runs
393 balls [yawn]
31.0 average

Did his best
Just not up to test standard
Too limited in stroke play
Maybe give him another 2-3 games , but not the answer at this stage at number 3 for Australia

I would definatly be willing to give him the next series first up.

I agree he seems limited in his stroke play but let's not forgot it was the worlds best attack on their own decks.

If he can average 30 against them I can't see any reason why he couldn't average 40 on our wickets against lesser attack and with him having some more experience

ALEX DOOLAN
6 INNINGS
186 RUNS
31.00 AVE
44.71 STRIKE RATE
Almost gonGgGGGggGgGggG time
I would think 4 more innings , pehahps the next test against PA will be his last ?

STEVEN OKEEFE
Made his debut v Pakistan
2/107 [30]
6 [47]
2/112[27]
0* [6]
Impressionable likeable spinner
Deserves another 2-3 games
Whilst I want SOK to make the grade, I doubt he will
I think he will eventually gongGGggGgGGGg out

MITCHELL MARSH
Made his debut v Pakistan
0/44[17]
27[61]
0/19[7]
3[8]
Disappointing debut , but the conditions did not suit him
I would say that given enough chances MM will make it at test level
He may have to wait until Shane Watson retires to get a regular gig though
MM has the talent to be a good Test cricketer

Gotta drop Doolan for this test or stick with him I say. Problem is at home against India's pop gun attack he will go fine & we will have another Ponting senario where he keeps his spot on results against a poor team but then gets found out again staight up.

Watto back at 3 for me though.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Pretty sure that DB was referring to early stage Ponting, he was handled with care and pushed down to 6 when he wasn't cutting it at 3, it proved to be somewhat successful ;) .

NEXT LEG SPINNER
Off spinners are a bit boring at times
Leg Spinners are entertaining often enough
Who will be the next leggie to play 10 + matches for Australia
Heres a list

Cameron Boyce
Fawad raindrops keep falling on Ahmed
James raindrops keep falling on Muirhead
Adam Zampa

Of that lot Fawad seems the best , but time is not on his side
Zampa , with natural improvement may be the one

Wickets and not runs on the board could see one of these talents play for Australia sooner than later
Or could the next BIG thing be Joel Logan ?
Maybe this could be the summer of Logans run

Here are some snippets from Dave Edwards on Glen Maxwell

GLENN MAXWELL
This is what the BIG show had to say about his batting in the 2nd Test v Pakistan

" They back me to play that reverse sweep no matter what the situation of the game.
They understand for me that its no different from a cover drive for any other batter.
They have instilled confidence in me to play that shot and they have seen it come off time and again.
They accept the fact for me its a norMAL shot , its no different from someone else getting beaten in defence
My best form of defence is attack , so they would much rather me go out playing my natural game than defending and getting caught bat pad."

DAVE EDWARDS
Excuse thats probably the most arrogant thing Ive ever read, and Ive read the Latham diaries
The reverse sweep is not like a cover drive
Its a trick shot employed by kids in the backyard ....
...I dont want to go into too much detail , but Maxwell is just another Gen Y dickhead who will come and go

Who is right Dave Edwards Glenn Maxwell ?
Will Glenn Maxwell play Test cricket again?
Is Glenn Maxwell good enough to play Test Cricket ?
