She wouldn't have let him within 40 feet of her.

She hated his arrogance and foul mouth, and even her father having been a union official and one of Peter Duncan's support group couldn't overcome that.
I think he was a major factor in her finally abandoning the ALP and joining the Libs with me in the early 1990s.

Speaking of intelligent, how factional meddling may have cost the Liberals victory:

The tight numbers game had some risks, party insiders say.

“The Right got so wrapped up in trying to keep out the Left’s top candidate, they ensured that their own best prospect got rolled,” a senior party insider told InDaily.

“Jassmine Wood was a good looking candidate, had a profile courtesy of her runs in West Torrens and Hindmarsh and had official links with key ethnic groups.

“So while the factional power players complain about unfair electoral systems depriving them of Government, they actually deprived themselves because their need to meddle got the better of them again.”

And when the votes were cast two weeks ago, Labor’s Paul Caica defied expectations and retained the seat of Colton – the crucial 23rd seat that gave Labor the edge.

The finger pointing has already started in the Liberal Party and this result will be key among the decisions made that may have back-fired.

He tried, but I found work-arounds for all his legislation fiddles.

And he did me one good turn.
Because people gave up investing in expanding their businesses, or building new houses, they bought tax deductions.
That enabled me to sell a Porsche 930 Turbo I'd had for four years at a 40% profit, just as shares dropped by the same margin during 1987.

Agree: they proposed a new stadium altogether.
Having a football stadium in the middle of the city was their initiative (which is what MHS said last week)

I agree but also it serves to highlight the similarities between the parties. rebuilt A and new B Versus New A and rebuilt B. Same same but different.

Well it's quite different imo because we only needed 1 stadium to cater for both sports.

1 stadium is definitely better than 2. I was referring more to the void of political vision for the state and in particular the similarities in policies between the two major parties. Take road transport, the debate between the major parties is on which part of South Road is more important to upgrade first rather than a debate on which party's grand road transport plan for the state is the best. It is micro scale, follow the leader politics. Nothing visionary, nothing bold, nothing that will elevate South Australia to be an economic force amongst the other Australian States. Both parties are guilty of it and the first one that gets off the treadmill and develops a real vision for the state will romp it home in an election. I know we live in a more challenging political age to that of yesteryear but where have all the real politicians gone?

It's a fair point, but I'm sure that constituents were saying, "where are the visionaries" during the Playford and Menzies eras (names I mention, as those gentlemen are very much respected and seen as visionaries). We don't recognise visionaries until well after the fact.

Personally, while South Road has many bumps to iron out, I think the works to get the Southern Expressway multi-directional, the Superway, the Fatchen Northern Expressway, Adelaide Oval and developing a new hospital are pretty visionary. Most of us, however, get caught in the politics of the moment and don't see it that way.
If you look at the Libs original plans for the hospital, rebuild it on the current site, and the Adelaide Oval, build a second stadium, I don't think they were visionary.
It has taken a lot of guts from the State Government to get all of those projects off the ground. Whether we'll all regard it as visionary, only time will tell.

Seriously, Weatherill, what do you expect from the Murdoch press? Also, if you're going to sling mud of that particular variety, it's probably more acceptable coming from an 'impartial' newspaper than from one of the major parties' own advertising campaigns. I'm no Liberal voter but I thought that they had every right to protest Labor's bullet-ridden wall ad.

You would think, the thought behind the pollies' spin flacks when this came out, was, "well, if we don't protest against it, we're accepting actually implying the Habib stuff was racist. We need to act indignant."

i dont think its racist, but this line "He worked as a taxi driver and ran the family’s takeway chicken shop … now he’s in charge of the state’s purse strings." is clearly derogatory and classist is probably the more accurate word for it.

i dont like the bloke but its not because he drove a taxi or worked in a chicken shop.
