Re: New Clubs for 2017
So in a nutshell, new clubs will be graded where the league believes in best interests at the expense of the runner up from the division below OR 8th placed side in that division if they reach an agreement with the runner up?

Re: New Clubs for 2017
so at the end of the season from div 3 to div 5 you'll have 29 teams + brighton = 30 teams
forget about divisions for a moment
brighton want a fight to earn a spot in div 2 but right now their only entry point is the div 5 2018 vacancy (9 teams there)
so lets give them the chance to get into div 2 but at the same time give all the other 29 teams that chance too....
split all 30 sides into 3 equally ranked conferences of 10 teams
if you win the premiership in your conference youre in div 2 in 2018 - thats the prize for everyone
that means 3 premiers going into div 2 (2018), so 3 teams will need to be relegated at the end 2017
--------
div 3 arrangements 2018
# 3 teams will come down from div 2 leaving 7 places to fill
# the 6 teams who finished 2nd & 3rd in each conference, will be in div 3 2018
# that leaves one place to fill - how do you split the 3 teams who finished 4th in each conference? one of them gets the last place of the new div 3 (2018) - maybe the side who won the most games throughout the year
--------
div 4 & 5 arrangements 2018
dunno yet cant be bothered thinking that far, but the teams that finished higher in the conferences make up a 2018 div 4
and so on and so on zzzz

Personally I think we should embrace it. I'm sure the league will do due diligence and ensure entry is not only fair to all but listen to our clubs concerns, as they did with Edwardstown and frankly they got that one very right. Top 4 SFL are at least Div 2, 5-8 are Div 3 to Div 4, depending on their SFL status and 9 to bottom are Div 6/7.

Hehehe this is gonna get messy.
I feel sorry for the decision makers.
Someone's going to be upset.
I like the idea of conferences. That would work.
Still think Brighton are nuts.

Zartan most of you northern clubs know that we at MP have been recruiting from SFL mostly at least in the last 6 years I have been at the club. All our 'recruits' have come from a need to remain stable at Div 6/7. If we went after players who play A's from 6 up we would be no where as A, we couldn't afford them, and B, we don't have points to throw around. SFL clubs who come in will keep their current list and then be a partisan to APPS points and then salary cap. It's very easy to grade them, they will have the same limitations that we do.

Its different with edwardstown though
There was a vacancy in div 4 and they simply took it
This time round we have a 2017 div 5 vacancy and at this point its looking like the current equal top side of the SFL is lining up to fill it
No one wants brighton in div 5 including them themselves

Re: New Clubs for 2017
If Brighton were offered div 5 surely they wouldn't take it up.
How much does the Adelaide league want them in their comp?
Cop some backlash and put them in Div 2?

Re: New Clubs for 2017
Didn't some clubs within the SAAFL close the doors last year?
If so why would new clubs be such an issue.
My opinion on the SFL clubs coming in , don't hold your breath on Brighton joining but put your money on M/Park / Marion and Hackham , as for grading I have no idea.

Re: New Clubs for 2017
I wouldn't have thought it was all pretty simple. We need to insert likely two teams, one into Division 3, and one into Division 4 where there's already a spot. From what we've observed over the last two-three years (SW, Salisbury, Brahma, Para Hills) D3/D4 does not really suit all existing C9AFL Clubs.
Brighton come in at D3, D4 goes back to 10 teams. Easy.

The free spot is in div 5
Lockleys hectorville come up to div 4 for example
And only Kenilworth get relegated, para hills current vacant spot is going to be relegated down a div to div 5

Unless they keep the vacant spot in D4 and relegate the bottom two sides (9th and 8th).

Re: New Clubs for 2017
Well it looks like we have 1 less team to squeeze in, one club has withdrawn from the race, leaving 3 clubs still with interest. When i find out who's pulled out, Ill let you know

Re: New Clubs for 2017
I think half the battle will be getting it sorted asap
If the amateur league can approach the div 3 clubs for example in the next month and say look Brighton will be coming into div 2 next year so only the premiers will be going up etc etc there will be better understanding from the clubs than if they wait til the season end and then try and tell a club who feel like they have been promoted to div2 that they no longer will be.
Communication is the key

Re: New Clubs for 2017
When all the SAFA Clubs came into SAAFL they all started down in the bottom Divisions and then worked there way into the division they should be in. ( even if meant winning a few fags on the way)
