Where does Boak fit into the mix next year? Talk of Rockliff/Gray rotating HFF/Mid - wasn't that the role Boak played this year?

It was and I don't know what 2018 holds for Boaky. Might see him out on a wing or at half forward.

Wines, SPP, Ebert and Rockliff playing inside roles, Boak, Polec, Motlop playing outside roles. One thing for sure is that if Boak is used on the outside more then he needs to tidy up his disposal, he's been pretty average by foot for a while now.

I'll be more interested in what they do with Westhoff if we get Watts.

I'd like to see him play off a HFF and drift across the half back line when kicking into the breeze, roam around and use his footy brain to work out where he needs to be on the oval.

I thought they may use Watts swapping in the ruck with Ryder from the FP? Westhoff to continue playing on a Wing

What does your Round 1 lineup look like?

F: Watts, Dixon, Wingard
HF: Motlop, Marshall, Gray
C: Westhoff, Wines, Polec
HB: Byrne-Jones, Howard, Hartlett
B: Pittard, Clurey, Bonner

Ruck: Ryder, Rockliff, Ebert

Int: Boak, Powell-Pepper, Houston, Johnson

What about Ebert to the wing, Westhoff HBF, Byrne-Jones BP, Pittard out?

If Bonner is in your best 22 you are in trouble.

S.Gray and Jonas in. Marshall and Bonner out. Marshall the interesting one, if we get Watts I think they don't need to overload the 19 year old string bean just yet. Might also be able to use Houston's foot skills further up the ground too. Might see him on the wing at times.

F: S.Gray Dixon, Wingard
HF: Motlop, Watts, R.Gray
C: Boak, Wines, Polec
HB: Byrne-Jones, Howard, Hartlett
B: Pittard, Clurey, Jonas

Ruck: Ryder, Rockliff, Ebert

Int: Westhoff, Powell-Pepper, Houston, Marhall/Bonner/Broadbent/Hombsch

Still a few question marks next year IMO (time will tell obviously).
I think Ports top 12 is as good as any but you will need Bonner, Howard, Houston, Johnson, SPP to go to the next level and continue their development.
Do you think your depth is there if injuries hit mid winter if Young and Achee go, Monfries retired etc? Pittard got dropped last year and i think Westoff if done.
Who would come in if Ryder went down? (If Lobbe goes)

If we pick up Watts, one of the softest and mentally weak players I've ever seen at AFL level and delay or impede yet another promising tall forwards development, I will personally burn Ken Hinkley's house down.

Would be quite possibly the single worst thing one could do with this team.

You guys are getting mixed up with the Boak who played in 2013 and 2014 who had some leg speed(was never quick though) and used the ball well.

This Boak is too slow to play as an outside mid and his disposal is not what it use to be.
He might be playing off the bench for most of the year I’d say.

His late season form was excellent.

I don't reckon his body has been right for years, those last few weeks he seemed to be moving more freely and his kicking was better.

In my mind he still a centre clearance winning mid. Good balance between inside and outside. He is in those rotations for mine. Seeing him up forward and Wingard in the middle gave me grey hairs.

Just read that Wallace thinks Port are spewing Geelong got pick 19 for Motlop as apparently it puts us in a position to secure Watts ahead of Port

Now, now...while I think Marshall has a bright future ahead of him I'm a little reluctant to throw him in the deep in for a full season of playing a key position in his current physical form. I'd have him in my plans for 2018, but I'd also have him playing 60 or 70% of the games. He's completely different to SPP, Wines and co. who can come in and play full seasons in their first year, we need to be mindful of managing him early.

As opposed to a knockout final when Trengrove was available?

That was a baffling decision by Hinkley wasn’t it.
I guess his(Trengove) cards were already marked by then rightly or wrongly.

Selection in that match can't be questioned. After the siren after extra time loss when we dominated play, execution can be questioned but not selection.

If we'd lost by 8 goals, question selection.

10 disposals, no goals, no hitouts. Trengrove would have given you better output and may have swayed the result.
