His new team have been super receptive towards him, during last week's awards the coach said he thinks he has a real crack at the association medal this season so I thought I'd count his stats yesterday, he racked up 27 kicks, 2 handballs, 12 marks, 5 tackles and kicked 4.2, he even managed 2 hit outs aswell, wasn't a bad effort after having stints on the bench in the 3rd & 4th quarters.
I'm run down and suffer from the big black dog at times but his footy gives me something to look forward to each week, moreso seeing the enthusiasm he has for it again and he comes out of his shell talking about it on the journey home, he's an ultra quiet kid who's quite modest so seeing him glow makes parenthood gold!
That is brilliant!
Our team has a excellent coach and team manager which is great for the kids

That's what it comes down to, his coach has been on to me for the past 3 years to get him out there, he used to coach me in the 14's and 17's and had seen my lad play, he gives him a role to do and the lad sticks to the plan, all the kids play as a team and there's no individuals or ego's.
The thought of watching him play soccer next year didn't have the same appeal.
In the last few years its already allowed me to travel the country playing football. Played in Vic, NSW, Qld and WA. Represented SA in two campaigns, won league and club awards.
And now this year is shaping up to be a good setup for my career post playing (which I don't intend to happen any time soon).
I coached the first junior Spartans team in 6 years earlier this season. I will be taking the role again for next season.
I'm 1/3 of the social media team thats increased the views on our pages from practically nothing to 11,000 in a week. Also, Coach's Corner was my brainchild if you caught it.
From there I started a flag football competition thats run from the end of the junior season. Finishing up this Wednesday due to senior preaseason starting next Monday.
The junior state head coach position was up for grabs, and the best candidate contacted me before his interview to ask if I'd be an assistant under him. Obviously I accepted. He got the position. So I'll be taking a role as a positional coach for the Junior SA Sharks.
And also extra roles within the Spartans for the upcoming seasons. I have some coaching courses and stuff organised for later this season, as well as a regular dialogue with the Australian National Team coach. Even to the point of him asking me my thoughts on certain aspects of formations and play packages.
F**k I love this sport.
I gotta ask, do you play gridiron?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

He's usually handball happy, his coach said pre-game that he didn't want him handballing backwards in the centre square to the players running past as he wanted him to get the clearance into the forward line by foot, taking 12 marks helped the cause as he either has a shot or plays on, will be interesting to see the ratio this week, I'll be runner though so I wont have a clue.
