That's actually a pretty good 11 I reckon AE, the two options I would have is to play Stoinis at 6 and leave out S. Marsh, Khawaja or Head and maybe have Lyon instead of Zampa.

Really think population has little to do with it If that was the case India should have dominated world cricket since day dot ! Amazing then how competitive NZ are then given their meager population Its all about structures Australia once had the best structured domestic set ups in the world and now its a rabble
Has there been any other batsmen in history that has received more dodgy LBW decisions against them then Nathan Lyon ??? Yeah it was a shit shot but umpire just guessing with that one Quite obvious that umpires give far less benefit of the doubt to tail enders than higher order batsmen.

They haven't had the infrastructure to harness it fully.
Australia have neglected their infrastructure - ie. the Sheffield Shield - and it's starting to show.

Another example... anecodotal if you wish but it shows why our latest generation do not have what it takes to be Test cricketers ... Jake Weatharld. Made it publicly known he much prefers BBL to red ball cricket. Because its done and dusted and then you can start again. And he also said he found it very hard to concentrate over the length of time needed in longer forms of the game.
I might suggest a solid statistical base is found in our batting averages across the first class level.
Let me know if you can think of ONE young Aussie who shows the mental skills AND has the aspiration to be a Test cricketer. Cos I cannot. Meanwhile India have them left right and centre. Now clearly they have a far larger population to select from but thats always been the case. I maintain that guys like Pujara and Bumrah and harbajhan Singh have so much more to gain for themselves and their families by working their way out of the castes that their families are consigned to than we have in our society. We have it good whatever... For Indians its a lifeline. And so it matters so much more.
You're attributing declining first class batting averages to an unsubstantiated myth that an entire Millennial generation has lost the ability to concentrate, or another unsubstantiated myth that the same generation don't work as hard as the last generation. That's pure codswallop.
I'd be more inclined to attributed declining domestic standard to the structure of the domestic comp.
I profess to being a bit naive when it comes to cricket but can someone tell me why a player like Brad Davis from Sturt can't get a crack at the higher levels. Think he is captain of Sturt, has a good batting average and has played county cricket in England. Is it because he is a keeper and that spots hard to get. Or has time passed him. Just interested on your views.

I have never thought Warney was overburdened with brains but his sudden support of Shaun Marsh takes the cake.
Back on October 18th during the last Pakistan test and before this series started the West Australian newspaper had the headline "Shane Warne wants both Shaun and Mitch Marsh dropped from the test side"
