Absolutely, they have been a class opening pair. Bit of swing for Southee too so this will be a good contest to watch.

Southee and de Grandhomme have bowled well, plenty of swing there plus some movement off the seam. The ball isn't really zipping through to Walting though.

I'd love to know why the Kiwis have square leg back when de Grandhomme is bowling to Labuschagne, it's just an ultra defensive field setting. I can understand have square leg back for Wagner bowling but for de Grandhomme v Labuschagne having square leg back plays into the batsman's hands all the time as it just easy runs for him.

Warner did alright in trying conditions, shame he didn’t get the chance to cash in. Kiwis so good in the field. Even though the Aussies haven’t been on top been a very enjoyable 1st session to watch. Always prefer cricket when the conditions are more bowler than batsman friendly.

So far hats off to the groundsman, this pitch is a goodun. Was a little slow but is quickening up, moved around early and is still giving some assistance to the quickies, and the outfield is giving value for shots. The only unknown is if it's spinning, Santner has been shithouse so might have to wait for Williamson to have a go.

Agreed, blokes like Gavaskar, Tendulkar, G.Kirsten, Border etc are prime examples. Remember watching Tom Moody have a shit time trying to fend off Rumesh Ratneyeke who wasn't exactly express.
