Even Australia has considerable elements of socialism in the way in which the country operates. A purely capitalist country would:

- not have any public schools, only private ones
- not have any public hospitals, only private ones
- not have a Medicare system
- not have any public libraries, art galleries or museums
- not have any public parks
- not have any public roads (all roads would be toll roads, and access could be denied to certain individuals or groups)
- not have any public access to beaches (all beach frontal areas would be privately owned, and owners could charge people for access, or even deny access to certain individuals or groups)
- (controversial, but is strictly true in a 'purely' capitalist society) not have any public police or defence force. In Australia's early days, all armies were private. For instance, Sir Rupert Clarke (owner of 'Rupertswood', where the Ashes began), had his own private Army.
These are just a few examples.

There has never been a successful purely capitalist society in the history of the world.

Not sure I'd agree. It's 'liberal' in the sense that it espouses (at least if you pay any heed to its founder's guiding principles) the notions of classical liberalism - small government, low taxes, a laissez-faire free market economy, individual liberties, protection of private property etc.

I'd say it the Liberal Party contains elements towards the right end of the continuum that embrace a conservative ideology (which, at its core, is having faith in tradition and experience over reason), along with the classical liberal proponents whom are referred to as 'moderates'.

Conservatives and classical liberals tend to flock together, I think, because they both advocate limited government, the former due to skepticism (their experience means they don't trust enlarged government and perceived interferences), and the latter from a utopian or rational point of view.

I'm pleased with Michelle Lensink, too, for another reason - i was seated next to her at a local party function when the raffle was due for drawing and she handed me her tickets saying, "You may a s well have these as I'll have to give it back if I win." I scored a bottle of Port and a Champagne on her tickets while mine won nothing!

Absolutely! Jamie Briggs (like the Greens SHY) tended to talk over anyone who disagreed with the line he espoused.
By contrast, I had several quite civil discussions with Corey Bernardi in which I presented the case for supporting gay marriage - at least one of them at Jamie's house!

Like several other local party members I know, i took exception to to attempt to insert the Downer daughter as local member, and particularly over that cheque handover bullshit.
