That split round is also when the AFL won't have any matches.
Edit: the second week of that round, for clarity

Re: Round 16
It worked well with a 21-game season, but with an 18-game season the season would have to be started very late April or have lots of byes/split-rounds to drag it out to late October.RB wrote:'“For many years, the October long weekend was a really successful tradition for the SANFL Grand Final so both the League and Clubs agreed this was the most favourable date to conclude what has been another unprecedented season due to the Covid pandemic,” Mr Chandler said.'nwdfanparade wrote:Games start on 7 Aug with the GF being played on the long week end of the 3rd October.

There is only one reason why the number of games has to be a multiple of 9.Mic wrote:It worked well with a 21-game season, but with an 18-game season the season would have to be started very late April or have lots of byes/split-rounds to drag it out to late October.RB wrote:'“For many years, the October long weekend was a really successful tradition for the SANFL Grand Final so both the League and Clubs agreed this was the most favourable date to conclude what has been another unprecedented season due to the Covid pandemic,” Mr Chandler said.'nwdfanparade wrote:Games start on 7 Aug with the GF being played on the long week end of the 3rd October.

21 is a multiple of 7, and 7 is what you get when you take 2 out of 9. The fix is obvious.

Yep, 8 teams works perfectly (although there would be 1 less week of finals).Pseudo wrote:There is only one reason why the number of games has to be a multiple of 9.Mic wrote:It worked well with a 21-game season, but with an 18-game season the season would have to be started very late April or have lots of byes/split-rounds to drag it out to late October.RB wrote:'“For many years, the October long weekend was a really successful tradition for the SANFL Grand Final so both the League and Clubs agreed this was the most favourable date to conclude what has been another unprecedented season due to the Covid pandemic,” Mr Chandler said.'nwdfanparade wrote:Games start on 7 Aug with the GF being played on the long week end of the 3rd October.

Re: Round 16
With 8 teams you could still have a 4-week finals series à la 2003, and pre-1973.
Semi finals in consecutive weeks.

Or take a leaf out of the AFL's book (!) and have pre finals bye week, followed by double header semi finals.RB wrote:With 8 teams you could still have a 4-week finals series à la 2003, and pre-1973.

Or just stick with the final five.

Yep. The problem with a top 4 is that there is no advantage between finishing 1st over finishing 2nd.Pseudo wrote:Or take a leaf out of the AFL's book (!) and have pre finals bye week, followed by double header semi finals.RB wrote:With 8 teams you could still have a 4-week finals series à la 2003, and pre-1973.

Buddy but the hand out to fend (there goes prior opportunity) gets tackled disposed illegally, play on
Nothing to see here….

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: Round 16
I don't mind that so much, as it's like 4th & 5th now have no advantage (and 2nd & 3rd). But to me, finishing top should be a bit more special.DOC wrote:Or third over fourth.

1000 allowed into community sporting events now, hopefully the SANFL will be allowed more.

Re: Round 16
Heard it may include SANFL as well.If it is capped at 1000 does that mean only that many can attend the Crows & Power reserves showdown as they are part of the SANFL if its good for them to have more then the real teams should be allowed more as well.
