Disaster update:

Car: Had a sickening 30 minute period where we thought we werent insured as the daughter is not listed as an L plate driver on the policy, but later confirmed it did not matter (phew). Still waiting on the car to be towed to a crash repairer. Might not be a write off as it drives, and no fluid leaking, but still think it might be written off just from all the panel damage.

House:
Building: A builder been a few times to make safe, board up, prelim assessement etc. Thinking around 5 weeks to fix and we should move out during it. Insurance and builder contractor came yesterday and they were brilliant. Needs an engineer report unfortunately, so that will take around 4 weeks to do then another few weeks to write up. damage has gone through garage, laundry, passage way and into our master bedroom. Going to be a big job.

Contents: Said make sure we claim every single item for contents and they will provide a cash settlement. No receipts needed. Even the laundry fridge has a scratch on the door, she said to claim it anyway. Also said to include food that was spoiled from the freezer that got smashed. Incredibly efficient these days...last time we had to sign our life away on stat decs with no receipts.

Spent Boxing Day at my sisters showing the nephews and kids how to execute the perfect suey.

Must’ve jumped in at least 50 times in what seemed fun at the time.

I’ve ended up with a blocked ear, tried a few different methods and the doc prescribed some heavy duty drops to break the ear snot down so it can get flushed.

Everything sounds in stereo and it’s crazily annoying, I had organises going to Port Noarlunga today with all my kids but that’s out of the question now.

Finding out that one of the pop-up sprinklers isn't popping down when the water goes off.

Finding this out the hard way, viz. while mowing the lawn...

Buying a couple of spare nozzles from Bunnings and installing one in the node, only to find that it does not fit and water leaks out profusely, despite manufacturer's claim on the packaging that it "fits all major brand of in ground sprinkler".

Removing the nozzle from a spare unit and trying that, to find that the node still leaked, and that the "arc adjustable from 45 to 180 degrees" claim on the packaging appears to be pure fantasy; what little water was making it out of the nozzle was doing it in the full 360 degrees.

Sigh...

Common problem. All the pop ups in my rental property have been chopped off and most of the pipe slashed with a too low set rotary mower by the tenants. For now the place just has a hose and a movable sprinkler - at least until I can find a better solution.

At home I've applied what I've learned and put my own system in. Lawn pop ups are under pavers and the relevant pavers have had holes cut in them to surround the pop ups. Thankfully I have a helpful tradie neighbour who did the paver cutting for me. Other sprinklers at home are mounted along fence lines well above the grass, or go in underground and only emerge inside the containing surrounds of walled off plants.

Unfortunately, the rental property has concrete paths so I can't do the same there with new pop ups
