Their WAFL side lost by 111 points in front of 849 people. the week before by 108 in front of 555 people, the previous week they lost by 169 points.

On Saturday 33 year old Kane Mitchell and 34 year old Will Schofield filled in for them. They had just 5 AFL listed players in the side.

Bazzo and Petrevski-Seton have both copped 1 game bans from the AFL MRP.

Looks like they'll have 1 AFL listed player available in the WAFL this week as they travel to Melbourne to play Richmond and would need to take at least 25 players ( 22 + sub + emergencies ).

Their WAFL side plays winless Perth this week, see how much they get rolled by and Richmond, with 1 win and a draw are $1.11 to beat them.

The conditioning some of their players walked onto a football field in has been terrible since the Covid era began.

Yes we dont 100% know the metric and exact fitness levels etc but i remember watching them a couple of seasons ago and they were carrying blokes with as much visceral fat as i have seen on a professional football field since the 90's.

Its about having the revenue and sponsorship $$$ to run a $60 Mill organisation (minimum) - another reason why the NT will never have a team

I’m not australia is big enough to have 20 teams running a $60mil organisation.

Not sure any location whether it be WA, NT or even SA can support the 20th AFL club to a point is financially viable on its own. It will just come down to the AFL deciding what has greatest impact for their $$$$ to find mind the 20th side.

Sad that any club is going through this but you make your own bed in most situations. I recall them playing during Covid and whinging about it. I did think to myself that they should think themselves fortunate their livelihood wasn't taken away as it was with other industries.

So was I the least bit concerned about their plight last week when we rolled them? No, not in the slightest. It's kill or be killed in this industry and many a team have done it before to us.

I've picked Richmond in my last man standing comp this week too. And they are NOT going well at all.

The conditioning of the squad over the last 3 years has been horrific, that department needs to be gutted and started over.

Can't keep anyone on the park at the moment.

Also SPP being out probably helps us more than anything. FFS has the heart of a gold fish.

As for the road back, previously when going though this we had a good spine to build around and that make the road back to finals quicker. Right now the cupboard is bare and it needs a full clean out and rebuild.

In terms of younger talent, the Kelly trade has hurt that and we will pay the price. However coming through we have Ginbey and Hewtt from the 2022 draft. Chesser looks good we just need him to string a few together. We haven't seen much of Long and Burgiel yet as surprise surprise they have been injured.

I haven't minded Williams in the ruck so far, needs some help but looks ok. Watermans form has been good and with Allen up forward and Darling now in the twilight it does look like we can build a forward around these guys.
Not sure where Jai Culley is best suited to yet, I would like to see some more midfield time from him.

At fhe moment it looks like a long few years ahead without any doubt. But if we can actually get some players on the part it should be better than what this current shit farm is.

The AFL congratulates field umpire Simon Meredith who will officiate his 450th AFL game in Friday's Round Eight match between Carlton and the Brisbane Lions.

Meredith becomes the fifth umpire to reach the milestone, joining Shane McInerney (502 AFL games), Hayden Kennedy (495), Brett Rosebury (489) and Matt Stevic (458).

He has umpired 43 finals and seven Grand Finals (2012, 2013, 2014, *2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022.

Unbelievably came the first umpire to win a Norm Smith with a three-way tie, and premiership medal playing for the Western Bulldogs in the 2016 Grand Final. There are only two others who share that same honor being Matt Stevic and Scott Jeffery, who were playing in the same match.

Meredith made his AFL umpiring debut in Round Three, 2004 when Carlton played North Melbourne at the MCG.

This round will be his 186th consecutive weekend umpiring AFL.

Meredith started umpiring in 1989 in the South Metro Junior Football League and the VAFA.

He was adjudged the 2022 All-Australian Field Umpire after umpiring all 23 games in the home and away season.

AFL Head of Umpiring Dan Richardson congratulated Meredith for his outstanding contribution to the game.

"On behalf of the AFL, I would like to congratulate Simon for his remarkable contribution to the AFL," Richardson said.

"For Simon to reach 450 AFL games, including 43 finals, is a testament to his professionalism and dedication to the craft. Umpiring 186 consecutive weeks underscores how much of a professional he is.

"'Medda' is a great leader across the AFL Umpiring team. He is an outstanding teammate, role model, and decision maker."

Port's wins over the last few weeks have just been getting over the line against 6-12 ranked teams (WC obviously excluded),they deserve to be the fifth ranked team, and maybe WB sixth and then a fair gap. St Kilda will fall in a hole IMO.

Port could easily knock off one of those sides in a first semi like often happens, but hard to see them beating Collingwood or Melbourne in a prelim at the MCG.

edit: just checked St Kilda's draw again - Hawthorn x 2, Richmond x 2, NM, WCE, Carlton x 1, so they might end up 5-6th on the back of an easy draw

Agree with the Saints call, think they make it. Think Port and Bulldogs definitely make it also. So only 8th spot up for grabs. Traditionally, at this stage of season there is only one change at most to the Top 8.

Out of Carlton, Essendon, Crows and Swans. This years draw is even more compromised than normal (with double up games against woeful teams like NM, WCE, Hawks etc). Will go Essendon for that reason as have four certain wins in that lot.
