Thousands of litres of sewage trucked from Angle Vale, Riverlea, Roseworthy and Virginia trucked out daily
Don’t follow these trucks too closely if you’re on the roads in Adelaide’s north. There are a lot of them and they’re doing a job the government says is unacceptable.

Young people ‘willing’ to have nuclear discussion
The PR Counsel’s Kristy McSweeney says young people are “willing” to have a discussion on nuclear because they want to “use all technology” to solve policy challenges.

More than 100,000 litres of sewage are being trucked daily from northern Adelaide suburbs not connected to mains because of SA Water connection failures.
Housing Minister Nick Champion warned Adelaide was running out of trucks to cart the effluent – an average of at least ten vacuum trucks per day has been required.
They are carting sewage to Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plant from Angle Vale, Riverlea, Roseworthy and Virginia.
SA Water told The Advertiser tankering wastewater enabled housing developments to progress and was “only intended as a temporary service until the delivery of wastewater network upgrades”.

But Housing Minister Nick Champion branded as “unacceptable” the long-term trucking of wastewater into Bolivar from northern suburbs.
“Firstly, it’s just not an acceptable long-term solution for communities and we shouldn’t expect any community to deal with that in the long term in the suburban area,” he told The Advertiser.
“But the second thing about it is it’s really impractical, because there’s only so many trucks that can do this.
“We’re not only at the limit of our physical capacity of our sewer and mains water pipes, we’re also at the capacity of our sewer trucks, our capacity to tanker sewage.
“So this is not a solution, other than a temporary solution while you’re building the houses and building the infrastructure.”
SA Water said the multiple tankers operated up to seven days per week, collecting the sewage from “dedicated storage facilities in new developments”, arguing this was “a safe and reliable interim service”.
“Tankering involves the construction of infrastructure, such as wastewater access chambers and stations, with vacuum trucks extracting sewage and safely transporting it to a wastewater treatment plant,” an SA Water spokesman said in a statement.

WHO WILL PAY FOR THE SEWERAGE HOLDING TANKS TO BE TANKERED IN TRUCKS TO BOLIVAR!!
At this point in time there's no infrastructure out there to pipe the shit to Bolivar, so developers have to build pumping stations & detention tanks to hold everyone's waste,
then a truck has to take it & dump it at Bolivar.
SAWater want the developers to pay for it!!
Developers will go broke doing this, therefore developers won't develop!
Result is no houses will be built & we'll have a larger housing crisis.

The climb in housing costs has gone on for a long time.dedja wrote:Yeah, I know, it’s obviously relative rather than absolute.Booney wrote:"Affordable housing", the oxymoron of 2024.
I remember thinking $200K was overs for a house years ago, but in hindsight I should have bought 5 at that price.
Easy to be a genius after the fact.![]()
My first house in late 1967 was a 2 bedroom place in Vale Park for $10,800 (plus stamp duty). My annual salary as a newly graduated junior doctor was then $3,875. The bank loan level was severely limited in those days, and cost 7.5% per annum, so my older sister who was working in real estate lent me a second mortgage of $2000. (My parents had paid a similar price - 5200 pounds - for their first house in 1957, but my father was on 990 pounds per year - then just under $2000 per year.)
About 5 years later I got $14,500.00 for that house and spent $16,000.00 building in Klemzig with A V Jennings. That one sold 5 years later (during the Whitlam era when prices hiked rapidly) for $45K and I bought something for $60K in Prospect.
It's just gone on happening ever since, but the inflation has become more dramatic in recent years....
However there have been flat spots! In 1983 I was struggling to get my $60K back for the Prospect place and in about 1995 I made a small loss on a house on Delfin Island.

Re: SAWater
The lack of planning from the state government and SA Water is astounding.
These developments have been pushing further North for sometime, they haven't just sprung up.
The problem is the people looking at the long term plan at SA Water are a bunch of muppets, the CEO is and his leadership team are horrendous at best at their jobs. Incompetent is the word mostly used these days.

Yeah, when the government starts throwing departments under the bus, it normally means the CEO of said department is on the way out.gazzamagoo wrote:Even the premier admitted that!stan wrote:The lack of planning from the state government and SA Water is astounding.

Speaking to a few people I know that still work there is that they are still dicking around with the Pt Lincoln desal, they just can't get out of there own way to sort out the issues with the project. There are still mote stuff ups on the books here ro come apparently.
The Northern developments is just highlighting further incompetents.

Seems that they are not looking after burst water mains anymore either... in my area I drive past two active burst water mains daily for the last 4-6 weeks and they both are still flowing water into the gutters...
