Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
If Hackham play Lonsdale would the same rules apply to the Northern clubs playing a long distance away? If the league played the GF at South Adelaide then I’d understand what you’re trying to get at. If the GF is hypothetically played at St Mary’s or Mitcham then the GF is literally 17-25kms away from the supporters of both sides. You’re not comparing apples with apples.
If the D6 gf is played at Centrals, then I’ll walk to China…

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
The nearest ground concept does have caveats that the league has made fairly clear in recent years. Mitcham has been used for 2 of the last 3 D7 Grand Finals and both were 2 northern clubs. That included Ingle Farm last year on the faint hope Bedge wouldn't make the trip!!
As Bedge said, it's the "one game a year supporters" that make everyone nervous. Most of the true club followers understand and respect that its now 2024 and will travel wherever they need to for their clubs GF and be well behaved. But the tyranny of distance will hopefully minimise the troublemakers.
There's been a couple of exceptions with the use of SANFL grounds but Mitcham, St Mary's, Campbelltown & Kilburn have been the main venues used for D5 to D7 grand finals in recent years.
I think Para Hills will spoil any chance of a Deep South Derby but if OSBL and Hackham were to make the D7 GF then I think they have earnt enough credits since being in the AdFL to be considered for St Mary's. Prelim Finals are now played at neutral grounds so a chance that the D7 Prelim could be OSBL v Hackham at St Mary's. Noting that day is still week 1 (D1) and week 2 of finals for the other Div's and the other grounds I've mentioned could be all getting used for Home Finals that day or those clubs could be engaged in finals elsewhere making it a challenge to host.

Elizabeth had their grand final at Centrals in 2021whufc wrote:Out of curiosity and i don't have the stats but has the southern clubs had the same number of issues/incidents in grand finals as the northern clubs.Dutchy wrote:Hence my question, does the AdFL apply the same rules for the Southern teams that they do for the Northern?
That being said if (big if) it happened it would be huge down this way, Id go along as a neutral and Im sure many others would also. Probably get more than the SFL GF!
Its great to see these clubs having some success.
I genuinely don't know the answer BUT if there was a pattern that a range of clubs from a select region had 'more incidents' would it be unreasonable for the league to act only on that region.
It is a shame though a Salisbury vs EP Grand Final at Central Districts would be epic and provide a great atmosphere (provided there was no incidents). Hopefully one day we can get back to seeing GF's closer to the participating teams.

Yeah but no one wants to watch Lizbeff, and St Paul’s have no supporters.

Div 5 GF there last year between Kilburn & Gepps Cross. Cracking Grand Final. Being a big ground, the game opened up after half time and became a more one on one contest.Lightning McQueen wrote:Yep, that'll be at Kilburn at the very closest. The Bedge wrote:Doubt it! The sides that have been out there recently
2019 - West Croydon - Fitzroy D6
2020 ?
2021 - Elizabeth - St Pauls. D6 I think from memory?
2022 Golden Grove - Edwardstown D3
2023 Gepps Cross - Kilburn D5
Was there for the 2019, 2021 & 2023 as the ADFL rep.
Always a great day when acting as the league rep.
Having Eastern Park & Salisbury there would make sense and close to home for both clubs if they make it especially as it looks like a possible double header in both the D6 & D6R

RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.
Let that be a lesson to you, Port Adelaide Sturt. & Norwood You don't beat Glenelg in Grand Finals and get away with it.

OSB supporters etc. will have like a 5 minute journey to get to their A grade game, they might even catch the arse end of who they might play in the B's if they are victorious.
Would be weird at Hackham turning up to an A Grade semi with no curtain raiser happening prior, I only done it twice as a player (in regular rounds) and the game lacked that atmosphere for the first 10-15 minutes for some reason.

Cant ever recall seeing a B grade team get a home final let alone a stand alone one, why wouldn't it just be played at Hackham as well?

It would be played at Mawson Lakes Oval as only a 6-minute drive for the OSB players and staff to Para Hills OvalUsedtobegood wrote:Cant ever recall seeing a B grade team get a home final let alone a stand alone one, why wouldn't it just be played at Hackham as well?

Great people at both clubs that are very welcoming. I would love Hackham to produce another upset but for the sake of a competitive GF OSB are the better option there.
St Marys will test them both but OSB (at least the couple games i watched) have quite a few young fellas that should love it.
Big gross knows how to negotiate the ground without working too hard - He will will be important

Hackham won the SFL C grade flags in '18 & '19 after finishing runner up in '17. OSB might have fell into a final earlier than that when SFL had a top 8 and there was only 11-12 teams, but certainly nothing much in the last decade. The Bedge wrote: Massive for Sullies with both sides, but equally for Hackham! Pity they both can't be in a GF but hope whoever wins takes out the whole lot.
