Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
I had the pleasure of seeing the King & I tour with Viv & Beefy in the early 90's (I reckon it was 1992 or 1993). Was a great night, they had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand.Lightning McQueen wrote:You're no Robinson Crusoe there mate, everyone in that era loved Sir Isaac!wenchbarwer wrote:I should add, Viv was my favourite cricketer of all time. Saw him hook a six that bounced once on the George Giffen stand roof, and into the tennis courts
I loved Imran, Akram (I modeled my bowling action and run up on his), Kapil Dev was right up there as was John Wright and Martin Snedden from the shaggers.
They did a Q&A session at the end, and one questions was "Which one of you is the King?"
Beefy grabbed his mike, and said something like "I think it's pretty obvious" and gestured towards Viv.
Viv just shrugged his shoulders and said "It's true"

I would have chucked Richie in before Shiv, but for a little bloke he sure carried a massive load.Lightning McQueen wrote:That sums up my daywenchbarwer wrote:Supercat is at 6 in the above list, and would most definitely be captain. Clive's captaincy was immense, turned a bunch of islands that hated each other into a superpower that took cricket by storm.

No spinner?
I’d have Swann over Flintoff for balance

Could have Head to open instead of Faull but can’t go past Hookes, Siddons and Lehmann.

Re: BEST OF THE BEST teams /players
Went and watched a district game when I was only real young and it was TTG. Faull hit 100 that day and after the days play was walking across the oval to his car. Stopped and bowled a few balls to me with a quick chat. This was all before he had played a shield game.amber_fluid wrote:Why Faull?whufc wrote:Favourite South Australian side….not necessarily best

Enjoyed watching his career progress. An honest battler in a real tough era of cricket who seemed to always make ‘crucial’ runs. Never a star but a solid honest battler.

Lance Gibbs was an offspinner and a wicket taking machine
Lance also played SS cricket for South Australia , but was not outstanding , hard gig bowling off spin in Australia

Cant put them all in but Hogg, Garner and Tait were 3 pretty exciting and effective Quicks which would be in some peoples lists i'm sure.locky801 wrote:My SA Team (Gotta remember been watching them since the early 60's)

Darren Lehmann simply has to be in the team somewhere , even as a spinner ahead of Mallett

Great call on the batting order, mal, Malcolm Marshall was very handy with the bat, Curtley, not so much. And every Windies side must have Viv at three!mal wrote:.......GIBBS if spinners deck...HALL if notLightning McQueen wrote:WINDIES
