Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews
Sweet Amber - Semaphore Road
Family took me on a tour for Fathers Day, Sweet Amber took 30 minutes to serve us a trio of dips, the young bloke with his hands in his pockets couldn't have cared less. People next to us on got told 30 minutes for a pizza, at the 1:15 mark they asked how long and with hands in pockets shrugged the shoulders and went "How would I know? Probably 20 minutes but go ask the pizza bloke".
Woof. Banned. 0/10.
Coopers Ale House - Gepps Cross
Packed for Fathers Day, probably 200 people dining.
1/2 kilo BBQ wings to share, out in under 10 minutes from ordering, nicely done indeed.
Fathers Day special 500g Angus Beef Schnitty with a massive pile of chips and really generous serve of salad, $35 and out bang on 10 minutes after the entree. Two pots of gravy on the side to handle the massive schnitty, well played.
Both Jnrs went the 700g Chicken parmi, $35 also. Great value and really well done.
Value - 8.5/10
Service - 9/10 extra point for the two pots of gravy
Overall rating - 8.75/10

Read somewhere a while back they were trying to sell the business but no takers or an interested party withdrew very late in the negotiations, then they were just close it once the lease expired. Building owner has possibly heavily discounted the rent and they are trying to sell again.

I know one of the owners, they brought it at it's very peak just pre COVID and since then it's been a lead weight around his neck.heater31 wrote:Think zero **** has kicked in.Booney wrote:Sweet Amber - Semaphore Road

Don't disagree, but because of the reasons i stated those types of shops have a much better chance of survival under the current conditions.
I mean when you're paying $5-$8 for a plate of steamed rice which probably costs about 50c given the bulk amounts they would purchase in you've got a punchers chance.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews
Hoang Phat - Ridley Grove, Woodville Gardens.
Firstly, what a lovely restaurant. It's clean, light and bright, tables and chairs well spaced and comfortable chairs. Often over looked is how a space looks and gets used, this is all very well designed.
Two couples
4 entree's shared - Spring rolls excellent, good size and crunchy. Satay's lathered in peanut sauce, just enough spice (2 serves). Steamed Pork Wonton tasty and well cooked.
I can't recall what they all had, I went the Beef Curry Fresh Lemon Grass, Coconut Cream, Ginger, Shallot, Tumeric and Coriander Sauce. Came out in a clay pot bubble away gently. The beef was fall apart tender, the vegetables still somehow just crunchy and the whole thing delicious.
4 entrees, 4 mains, 2 bourbons and 4 beers $198 - $50 per person for two courses and a couple of drinks.
We'll be back.
Food - 8.5/10
Service - 8.5/10 - Entrees were out in under 10 minutes, mains around 10 minutes after that.
Ambiance - 9/10 - Clean, light, bright and well designed
Overall - 8.75/10
Always suspicious when places have vast menu's and this one sure does, I would say 12 pages of offerings but everything we had and saw come out looked excellent.

Barramundi Burger at the Humpty Doo Hotel 5 stars
Scotch Fillet at Shenanigans 4.5 stars, paying $7.50 for a soda water makes it lose half a star
Have worked out that NT food is just as good as Tassie's as they both use local produce.

Have you been to Fiddler's Green? Their creamy garlic mussells are bloody amazing and you'd struggle to eat a full serving.Dutchy wrote:Barramundi Burger at the Humpty Doo Hotel 5 stars

Just had lunch at Fuggazi in their downstairs room, which I never knew existed. 4 courses was a bit too much for lunch, but the food was too good not to keep eating, going to have to go back and try their traditional menu.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews
Went to the Queenscliffe Pub in Kingscote last night, very old school pub with 70's/80's decor and furnishings, not much has changed over the years, I was fearful of the quality of food.
Went for the Scotch Fillet, 300gms $34 plus $4 for Pepper steak which was plentiful and came in the old silver gravy servers.
It was the best steak I have had for at least 5 years, wife had the same and hers was magnificent also. Pepper sauce was thick and flavoursome and I ran out of meat to use it all. Ive had $80 steaks which are nowhere near this quality.
Confirms my theory about food in remote places is better as they use local produce, this has now occurred in Tassie, Darwin and KI.
Pity we have already booked into the Italian joint tonight otherwise would be going back for another.
5 stars.
