Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
Might be some sad sods next year when the league takes a firmer stance on the 3 player policy, given the rumours that a stack of players have elected to go to Para Hills or Greenacres.Beachboy wrote:. Anyone know whats going on at Mawsons?

Seriously though, if the whispers are true, it's going to have a fair impact.
Central United would be the biggest losers if Mawson Lakes fold - if I'm not mistaken, they'll drop back from D6 to D7 to maintain an 8 team division.
Matter made worse given West Croydon + Brahma Lodge recruiting hard.. getting out of D7 again might be real hard.

Right now you'd imagine BL would be hard to beat. WC still have a lot of scope to bring back 0 pointers I'd say.

WC with Tyson Rigney, Frankie Wanganeen and Reece Johnston - that's a pretty strong engine room, add in Pligl and Ware.. it's handy.Beachboy wrote:Right now you'd imagine BL would be hard to beat. WC still have a lot of scope to bring back 0 pointers I'd say.
Depth might test them, but top end talent they'll have plenty.

Without a doubt, plus they may be able to bring a few more home to the nest. Will be very interesting to see if MP or Hackham can take the next step. The Bedge wrote:WC with Tyson Rigney, Frankie Wanganeen and Reece Johnston - that's a pretty strong engine room, add in Pligl and Ware.. it's handy.Beachboy wrote:Right now you'd imagine BL would be hard to beat. Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
**** it, let's just create one division of 17 teams.
Play everyone once + one bye.
Top 5 split into D6 Finals
6-10 split into D7 Finals
11-17 cry themselves to sleep

Shall we split them into Northern and Southern divisions? I dont think Ive ever seen anyone mention that idea. The Bedge wrote:**** it, let's just create one division of 17 teams.

Here's one for you. 10 years ago Salisbury West went undefeated in div 7 to win the flag. How would they go if that team was competing in div 7 this upcoming season. And would they beat a div 1r side?

Was that when Steve Wellington was playing for them a year out from being a crows top up player?Beachboy wrote:Here's one for you. 10 years ago Salisbury West went undefeated in div 7 to win the flag. I think PNU’s C Grade played D7 that year and were flogged by Salisbury West by as much as would have been flogged by PNU’s 1R side (that I think was tolerably competitive).
Think there were a lot of c grade sides in D7 that year such that it answers itself

Paralowie's 2008 side would've beaten them.
Easily the best Div 7 side I've seen.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
Seems by the post on the M/Lakes Facebook page that they’re in some serious trouble, and I really feel for Trav Mellow — he’s a great bloke.
Once again, it just highlights how much small clubs struggle with volunteer support. Greeny’s look to have already picked up around 8 players, and Hills have about 5–6, with 3 of those being former juniors or seniors from what I can see.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I understand the league allows only 3 players per club, and even if M/Lakes fold, other clubs still can’t take on more than that. Understand they want to spread players around to keep things even — but if they start telling players where they should go, some of those players end up taking the year off.
If M/Lakes do fold, the fix seems pretty straightforward — Golden Grove’s D & E Grade could move into Div 7, problem solved.

Mawson Lakes are as good as dead from what I've heard - no coaches, no committee and players out in droves.redstar goodsaint wrote:Seems by the post on the M/Lakes Facebook page that they’re in some serious trouble, and I really feel for Trav Mellow — he’s a great bloke.

Greenacres with Jack Van Den Brink at the helm have really gone hard, and seem to have been telling blokes that the league will give them dispensation to get more than 3 and/or if Lakes fold then the rule wont apply.. the players have all bought it, but there will be some sad fellas when the reality sets in.
Brahma Lodge have also apparently picked up a few.
If Mawson Lakes fold, then you're correct, it'll only be 3 per club.. and if players opt to sit out a year because they can't get to the club of their choice then bad luck unfortunately.
Genuinely feel for Travis as well and those volunteers over the years at Mawson Lakes, to put in some much time, energy and effort and have it just fall in a heap overnight is heartbreaking. Players really don't give a **** these days - easily lured by either money or the promise of instant success.
If Lakes fold, Rules & Regs are pretty clear - 9 teams in D6, and 8 teams in D7.. Would mean Central United remain down with only Eliz going up.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7
Is it just a case of too many clubs for too few players?
Not having the greatest knowledge of clubs north of the bogan proof fence, it just seems as though once one or two teams decide they want to go on a recruiting spree, it means there's a club that's facing shutting down.

1. Lot of clubs in the area makes it very competitive.
2. Lack of juniors is also difficult.
3. Players want easy, instant success - they aren't willing to spend 2+ years working towards it.
4. Players seem to be like sheep these days, they just follow the herd... few blokes leave or go to a club, they wanna join em.
5. Money plays a factor, some clubs have a bigger budget than others.
6. Lure of playing in a higher div also occurs.
7. Attitude of players stinks - they expect the world - perfect club conditions, perfect coaches, perfect trainers, perfect training sessions.
