Re: Grade Cricket
Woodville have appealed their recent loss to West Torrens at Henley citing a 'damper pitch' on day 2 when they were chasing West Torrens' 202. At stumps they were 2/50ish on the first day and at one stage 3/90ish and in the box seat on the second day. It has already taken 2 lengthy meetings, numerous witness statements and detailed statistical analysis of batting averages over the season etc and STILL no outcome. Interestingly, WT was 4/54 the previous week on a supposedly better wicket. I could be wrong but believe that West Torrens has no involvement in the preparation of the pitch as it is done by an independent party.Aerie wrote:7 down, 3 to go. Is the premiership now a race for 5?
Adelaide made light work of Kensington's batting line up, bowling them our for 131, defending their 253, to put them right in the mix.
Sturt slogged it out all day with the bat (78 & 8/199), to avoid giving Port Adelaide an outright result after Port declared their 1st innings closed at 7/198.
Woodville declared at their overnight total of 5/301. All of East Torrens' batsmen chipped in to chase down the total, 5/302, with 5 overs to spare.
West Torrens declared at 9/289 last week and had both Tea Tree Gully's openers dismissed early, but despite keeping wickets in hand from that point on, TTG left their run too late. 14 overs with the 2nd new ball saw TTG lose 4/54 and fall 20 runs short, finishing up with a draw at 8/269. Frustration for both teams, one of which will probably see themselves in Division 2 next season.
It was West Torrens 4th Draw for the season, in a quirk of the points system, they have lost less games than the ladder leading Kensington, but sit firmly in the relegation zone with three rounds remaining.

Re: Grade Cricket
Surely that's the domain of the umpires?
They are the impartial ones who saw the pitch both weeks and should decide whether they think anything untoward happened

Umpires are usually only there to decide if it is safe or not.
Heard yesterday there was a 7 hour hearing on Thursday about this.
Final result apparently: nothing to report

Has there ever been a club found guilty of pitch doctoring I wonder?

Adelaide 7/367 vs Woodville (The Peckers will be hoping for a dry pitch this weekend)
One Day GF on Sunday between West Torrens and Kensington - the predicted weather may be a factor? Looks likely this game might need to be rescheduled?

Stir in Div 2…. Prospect forfeit their match vs Northerns giving them the full 30 points for the match and putting them back into 2nd.

Slashed a player for 2nd week for an exam, player was found to not have an exam.Insider_Trading wrote:How did they forfeit?
Didn't Prospect get the runs in the 2nd innings?
Pretty crazy to use that before uni had even gone back.

Heard today that this Prospect player apparently had an assignment due. However on the day of the game he was interstate at a wedding.

Re: Grade Cricket
Terrific weekend for West Torrens who defeated Kensington in both the 2 day match on Saturday and the One Day Cup final today. Keeps their record safe of being the only club to win the triple crown of titles in the one season. Too bad they will be unlikely to contest the 2 day finals or..............?
Stranger things have happened but priority will be to avoid relegation I feel.

Re: Grade Cricket
Eagles 3rd One Day Premiership in 5 years and 4th in the last decade. They join Kensington and Glenelg as the most successful clubs in terms of One Day premierships, with a total of 8 since the comp began in 1967/68.
A dominant display with both bat and ball. A good toss to win with the pitch under covers overnight and overcast conditions. James Reuther (4/31) ripping through the Kensington middle order and the very impressive young left arm orthodox spinner, Deakin Murphy, picking up 3/12. As they have done many times over the past decade, Kelvin Smith (33) and Bailey Capel (53*) ensured the Eagles would add some more silverware to the trophy cabinet down at Henley, chasing down 122 1 down.
